This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

  • 2006 Impala SS - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Just traded 98 STS that I drove for 140k miles. My new SS has been evrything I expected. Way more fun to drive, plenty of performance but a little short on acessories as compared to the STS. I live in the Northeast so the fwd is necessary, but the torque steer is NOT an issue. Educated drivers paying attention to road conditions will enjoy this vehicle at a very competitive price. Do I miss my 2 driver memory settings and heated rear seats, sure, but I dont miss the service costs that came with the $52k msrp STS. I am enjoying the "sleeper" that this car is when all those soccer Moms try to pass me on the right. Good Luck!

I love this car. It has a smooth, quiet drive. I have never had a problem with it. My wife drives it on business trips and I never worry about it breaking down.

I wanted the biggest car I could get with lots of room and comfort for the lowest possible price. Thats what I got. Good acceleration and passing power. But the engine seems to lug when turning the corner from a stop. Whats up with that?

  • Powerwindow Squeals /trim is coming off - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Great car. But it has been to dealer twice for them to repair screeching driver window. The last time was 2 days ago. Window is still squealing. The trim is coming off on driver side where the doors meet. Both doors have peeling trim? What the heck? The car has 5000 miles on it? Love the car but becoming very disappointed in my new car.

  • Love The Ride......Hate the Gas Mileage - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Have had the Impala SS since November and love the performance and ride of the vehicle. However, Im really disappointed in the gas mileage as Im only averaging 19.2 mpg. Also, the torque steering does take some getting used to. Was also suprised that the owners manual suggests using premium grade gasoline.

  • OK, but... - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

We can all read and know whats special but heres what should have been different: more laterial support for bucket seats; a 6 speed automatic tranny; rear wheel drive - the FWD has too much torque steer; no indicator on floor shifter; no truck key access; huge open gap on overhead visors; climate controll; move skyroof forward so you can actually see out of it; run on regular 87 gas.

  • Impala #1 - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Starts easily, excellent low speed pickup, great hi speed overdrive, consistent mileage (25-27). Very nice stereo/cd (easy for non pros to enjoy), quiet inside & out. Comfortable smooth ride except for one place where it vibrates from the road. Very responsive in tight places. Excellent cargo space and accessability. Good long trip car, but maybe a bit more road noise control.

  • Good value - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I purchased my Impala not knowing what to expect with front wheel drive and the Impala name on the same car. My car has the 3900 v6 and man it will fly. I love the space it affords me since Im 63" and 240 pounds, with the seat all the way back I can barely reach the pedals. I also have a Deville Concour and Im happier with the Impala than I ever was with the Caddy. I am happy with the redesign of the Impala also I think it looks elegant as well as sporty with the dual exhaust and deep sounding mufflers. Happy, yes only wish there were more exterior locks on this. There is not even a place to put a key in the trunk or passenger door. Design? I dunno....

I bought the LT2 Impala used, with 7000 miles, and have driven 1500 miles so far. The car rides great, gets 30 mpg in combination city/highway, (about 75% highway)which is better than the 02 Nissan Altima 4 cylinder I traded in, can use E85 ethanol, and is a much more comfortable car. Looked at Accord and Camry, but the Impala is a lot more car for the money. I have friends with Hondas and Toyotas, and they are not as trouble free as some would have you think. If you drive as much as I do, and want a solid, cofortable car, with great safety ratings, check out the Impala LT

  • Comfy, Roomy, Cool, but not Sexy - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

People who ride in this car say things like, "I like riding in this. Its not a very good looking car, but its comfortable". The A/C here in LA is great. The ride is smooth, but not as quiet as Ive had it other cars this large. At 30,500 miles, after a 40 mile drive, the engine temp gauge went all the way to the top! It caught me off guard. I turned the heater on, but to no avail. I quickly pulled into a parking lot to check the radiator, and it was fine. Turns out the water pump went out. Thankfully, it was covered under warranty.
