This Year's Model Updates:

GM resurrected the Impala nameplate last year (a staple in Chevy's lineup from 1959 to the early '80s and then briefly from 1994 to '96) and put it on an all-new, full-sized sedan body that rides on the Lumina front-drive platform. Although the Lumina itself is still with us for the 2001 -model-year, Impala will eventually replace it as Chevy's large-car entry to battle the likes of Ford's Crown Victoria, Buick's LeSabre and Chrysler's LH cars.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, big brakes, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • So-so styling, no V8, wallowy suspension, big front-drive cars rarely sell as well as big rear-drivers.

  • I like it! - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

I bought my Impala, used, last November and have been very pleasantly surprised with the value and performance. Weve taken several long trips(NE Ohio to Fla.) and have really enjoyed the spaciousness and comfortable ride. When family comes we have put three cars seats in the back with no problems! Previously owned a Camry and I honestly like this car better. There have been no problems mechanically.

  • Watch the gas gage - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

I bought a used Impala after driving one for my company car. Both the company car and my car had gas gage problems after 50,000 miles. It is a great car (very reliable) except for the gage.

The is a nice practical car that gets fantastic mileage from the 3.8 liter engine and also has plenty of power. In 50,000 miles, I have replaced the tires and battery. On-Star is a really nice feature that makes you feel more secure in your travels.

  • Cant go wrong here - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

I ve leased this vehicle for about 2 1/2 years now and I must say its been very reliable. 20 MPG in town and 31 on long trips. No mechanical problems at all. Very comfortable. When the lease is up Ill buy it.

  • Great car but with exception - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

This car is extremely comfortable. I call it a poor mans Cadillac. The only problem I have had with this car is the brakes. Replaced rotors at 21000 miles and again at 35000 miles. This has also ruined four sets of pads and they are gone again now at 49000 miles. General Motors says they have no problem with this but I know different after owning 14 Chevrolets. Do not trust the brakes.

This has been a very reliable, comfortable, good performing vehicle. The Gas mileage is excellent averaging 20 mpg in town and 30 highway. The trip computer however has a slight problem trying to keep track of the mpg and gallons used. The performance of the 3.8 is remarkable. Handling is sure and secure.

  • Great Car - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

This is a car with the consumer in mind that is fun to drive and a lasting car. For those who keep a vehicle and want great dependability over the long haul this is the car. With a great price and great dependability you cant beat the overall package. I dont want to burn the wheels off or hit the backroad for a race. If that is what you would like to do then you need to buy a sports car. This is a great car!

  • Bad rotor design - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Had to replace front rotors at 19,000 and 34,000 miles. Other than that, I love the car.
