Overview & Reviews
The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.
- Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
- Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

Fold down rear seats - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Frank Master - March 14 - 5:56 pmFun to drive. Needs more cup holders! Did not get fold down rear seats option. This could be a problem, seeing that there is no keyhole to access the trunk. If you have dead battery, you wont be able to get jumper cables out of trunk.

By Diane - March 8 - 10:43 pmThis car handles very well, is comfortable to drive, gets great gas mileage (30 highway), and looks sharp. We own the LT2 in Glacier Blue Metallic w/sunroof, flip & fold seats, XM radio. You cant go wrong for the price.

My 3rd Impala - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By crewzn - February 17 - 9:30 amThis is my 3rd Chevy Impala. I am normally a truck type of girl, but in 2000 my husband took me to see a red Impala LS at 9pm on my birthday! I fell in love with it, bought it next day. I then up graded to a fully loaded LS in 2002 (also red) with sunroof and all extras. In 2005 he talked me into a GMC crew cab tk, that lasted until I drove a 2006 Impala LTZ (white this time...didnt like red that year) bought it in June 06. Absolutely love it. I have taken it on road trips to Portland, OR, several trips to Branson, MO and at least 3 to Wichita, Ks. Car now has 14500 miles and still rides awsome. Note... K&N airfilter helped with my gas mileage and take off quite a bit.

Just as good as the imports - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Brian - February 8 - 4:26 amGot my 3.9 Impala in July and have had nothing but rave compliments about the interior. My best friend has a 2006 Camry and tells me every time hes in my ride that I have a better looking interior. I love that next gen 3.9L and think if it isnt the best six out there it ranks in the top five. If they slap in that new 6 speed this would be a perfect drive train matching anything foriegn or domestic.

2006 Impala Super Sport - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By dennis penberthy - January 22 - 1:13 pmThe 2006 Impala SS that we bought was the first one in our area. Other Chevy dealers would stop us and ask to check it out because they couldnt get one. This car is not only very powerful but very comfortable to drive and ride in. The rear seat is one of the best to get into and also has one of the most comfortable rides I have ever seen. The fuel mileage is not the greatest but we get about an average of 22.5 mpg during the warm months and 21.6 during the winter. The highest we have gotten was 24.6 mpg. My 2004 Impala SS has a 3.8 Supercharged engine and it averaged 30.4 mpg on a trip to Oklahoma.

Overall.. fun car to drive - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By DMAN - January 14 - 6:13 amA full sized car that handles like a hot rod, comfortable, good looking car. I am used to driving performance cars in the past. I could not believe the power the ss has to offer along with the handling. I am also pleased with the braking capabilities of the ss. No problems as yet, but still early to tell. I purchased the extended warranty just due to the engine and transmission.

Excellent Car... I love it!!! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Wags - January 4 - 7:13 amLove the car!!! First drive and I was sold. Wish it was rear wheel drive and in stick, however, it is still a lot of fun to drive and very enjoyable. I love the V8 and I average 27-29 mpg going 72mph. Love it. Handles not too bad for a bigger car, has a little of pull when on the gas hard, but to be expected out of a FWD car. No complaints! Awesome build quality! GM has a big winner!!!
