This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

  • Performance of dream. - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I am very please with the performance on my Impala SS.The power on take off is so inviting and tempting, (I may say) to break the traffics law giving you that Jekyl and Hyde personality battle. I have to admit it feel so good to turn it loose once in awhile and I am just glad I had not been caught up with yet.It does not end there,at cruising speed the transformation comes back, you could only heplessly wacht once again how you end up giving in to temptation so just go ahead enjoy the rush!

  • GM has finally done it! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Smooth quiet ride. Exceptional fuel milage. I test drove the Toyota Camry and Buick LaCrosse. Both nice cars, but Impala beats them both hands down. Thank you GM for finally producing a car a that can compete in every way shape and form with the Toyota Camry. Keep it up and youll have a customer for life. We all knew you could do it, and you have with the all newly designed 06 Impala.

Driving My Impala is a real treat. I bought is for myself and cant keep my wife out of it now. Her car is a 2004 Venture Van. The style( a real head turner!) is great. My kids all want one and they are picky. The indash computer is awesome, like the instant mpg feature and oil life. It rides and drives like a real champ. Have driven a Limited edition Camry and wouldnt trade it for my Impala LS!

If you want a car that is a smooth ride on the highway but at the same time fun to drive this is the car for you. Depending on how far you go, it eats up gas, but thats what happens when you go to a bigger car. Overall, I can go down the highway and before I know it I am doing 80 mph or more.

I am very impressed. Have found nothing wrong with the car. I have owned 7 Corvettes. This is my wifes car and it impresses me with the Vette like performance prior to 1997. We bought an Impala LS in 2000, but this one puts it to shame. I look forward to driving it when my wife lets me. Chevrolet has outdone itself and has a winner here. I love the polished aluminum wheels and the exhaust rumble. Fantastic automobile!

  • Best Car Ive Owned - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I had to buy a new vehicle after an accident. I did a lot of research and I had narrowed it down to the Imapla and a Camry. I drove an 07 Impala and decided that was the car (I bought an 06 to get the price break). The LTZ has the 3.9L engine. It is very powerful, even in a car the size of the Impala. The seats are just great. The leather is soft and comforatble. The interior styling is very clean and refreshing. The trunk is huge! I really think GM has gotten much better. They think of little things that you just dont find in other cars like the delayed door locking allowing you to open another door after pushing the lock button. Very nice!

  • Great Car - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Ive had my Laser Blue SS for about a month now, and in my opinion its a great car. Its very comfortable, quiet, and rattle free. With 93 Octane gas Ive been averaging about 19 mpg with mixed driving, and the motor is very strong and smooth. FYI this car will also fit two car seats and a booster seat in the back. So far, the build quality / fit and finish seem great. I havent noticed any defects, and you dont hear the road or the wind much at all. The car handles great for a large 4-door sedan, it really seems to stick to the road well. Also, the Bose stereo sounds great, and the MP-3 player input is very convienent.

if you are considering this SS....buy it...buy it...love the car, nice rumble at all times. is sneaky fast you will definetly have watch the speedometer, 80 mph comes on quickly, my wife even likes it. Fuel economy with my lead foot to 60 every time,he he he, very acceptable 18 or so, DOD is not even noticeable, there should be a warning sticker that says "2 hands on the wheel" mash the gas, 2 hands or hit the ditch.....some call it torque steer, I call it too much engine on good tires.

  • Replaced transmission at 38,000 miles - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

I bought this car in Oct 05. At 38,000 miles the transmission had to be replaced due to what was called a catastrophic failure. I didnt have the extended warranty, but after a call to the BBB and several calls to GM, they agreed to reimburse me for the repairs. At 47,000 the rack and pinion steering broke and needed to be replaced. I am in the military and have the car with me overseas in Guam and am at the mercy of the only certified GM dealer on the island. The car looks great but the repair costs are outrageous. I have not been able to get the tire pressure monitors fixed for over a year now.

  • Very Happy - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

We havent owned the ca a month yet, but we are very happy with all aspects of it. We are very happy with the comfort of the car. We love the back seat. We got one that folds down and has small storage areas in it. The pull up seats are a real saver on the seats. The trunk is huge too. We love it and are very happy so far with our purchase. We got one that will run on E85.
