This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

  • Nice Car - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I bought it brand new with less than 10 miles on it. Now it has 123,000 miles and still drives great. I have replaced the tires twice and replaced the water pump which the dealer misdiagnosed the first time I went in with it but no engine damage at all. I definitely would buy another car since it has never failed to start on me. I use regular oil and change it every 7500 miles or so and right now only have an issue with the rear window defrost is very slow if working at all.

I have owned it for about a month. Fun car to drive, looks pretty sharp. I had some transmission troubles, dealer/GM took great care of the car. No problems at all.

  • Not bad for a Police Car. - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I had been searching for a new Impala for almost an entire summer when I came across this car. It is a police package impala(never used),3k miles, with all the police goodies (3.9L, trans, oil, and power steering coolers, HD brakes etc.) I love this car, its comfortable, handles, stops on a dime, and moves on the highway. My only real complaint is rather poor gas mileage(22mpg@70), and that the exhaust system is already starting to rust after one winter. Other than that its an all around quality car that should last me forever.

  • I will own nothing BUT an Impala SS! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I have had my Impala SS for about 2 years now, and love it, love it, love it! It is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned! It has been reliable, comfortable, and fun! I like the sedan look and the interior is also very nice (I love the sunroof). I am at about 27,000 miles and have not had any problems, whatsoever. I am looking at the 2010 Impala SS and cant wait for that to come out! The trunk space surprised me as to how LARGE it was!

  • I Love this car, but ... - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

The heater does not work, it takes forever for it to get hot and when it does get hot, I cannot let off the gas, because once I do it becomes cold (ex. stopping at a signal light). I had popping in the steering wheel, and since it is under warranty I took it to the dealership they "fixed" it. Along with all four tire pressure sensors. And not even a day after being fixed the tire sensors went out again, and now a month later the popping has returned! Oh, and when I am going down the road the car has power surges! Oh and another problem I have, I have remote start, but the remote doesnt reach unless I am a foot in front of the car! And Its been replaced twice, I love the car, but this is sad!

  • Impala SS: Super Sleeper - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I dont think GM has ever offered a car that mixed so much performance and economy in such an attractive package. I was looking for a daily driver with reasonable gas mileage and what I got was a fun to drive sports sleeper-sedan with horsepower to spare. And, the gas mileage is good for 303 HP-- Im averaging 22 in city. Build quality is much better than even three years ago, it rivals some of the German brands. Very roomy interior with nice surprises. Controls are logically placed, clean looking and easy to use. Great XM Bose stereo. Exterior tolerances are extremely good. Improvements galore over recent US brands, right down to the door hinges. GM is trying hard to earn business.

  • Leave em in the dust - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Ill say it once. Whiplash. I had a Dodge Intrepid ES that didnt come close to my Chevy. The interior is simple but accommodating. Easy to see controls. Sunroof is farther back in the roof than other cars, but is a nice option. 0-60 was 6.1 compared to the 6.5 promised. I took it on the track and topped it off at 146 mph. Needless to say the gas mileage is less than appealing. I drive a lot of city miles and it averages 15 mpg. Plenty of room for all and a great sized trunk. Keep battery back up for keyless entry due to the lack of a trunk keyhole. I looked at many cars and trucks and would go back and change it for the world. Looking forward to leaving the others in my dust.

  • Take care of your car, will take care of you - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I bought my impala from a dealer. To date, I have only had to replace a $65 dollar part. This car has a lot a room and great for long distance driving. Gas mileage is about 26 miles on the freeway which great if you consider the comfort. I change the oil as required, I dont abuse my car by jack rabbit starts. The brakes have not been replaced but will be changed based on the owners manual. I will be replacing the tranny oil and filters as required by owners manual as well. When you buy a used car you have no idea if the previous owner took care of the vehicle. I would buy another Impala. This time a SS. These cars are fun to drive. Power

  • My new Chevy - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I love all the buttons that you use now that I learned them all. The information you can get is very thorough and tells you all you need to know. The handling of the car is excellent. My favorites are turning on the engine before you get in. This way you can have it at the climate you want when you enter your car. I also like the alarm system where you can turn it on if you notice someone around your car that may look suspicious. The OnStar system was standard and it is great. Also the XM satellite radio is quite pleasurable. All in all it satisfies my needs immensely.

  • My 1st Chevy - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I was looking to replace my Mazda6 with something more grown-up, safer, quieter, roomier, that had some heft to the controls. I like the more solid feeling structure the Impala provides compared to my Mazda and most Japanese cars, I dont need nor want feather weight doors that close at the slightest blowing of the wind or overbearing road noise, you the kind you only learn about from taking a roadtrip.
