This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

  • Worst car ever - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

This is a terrible car. The looks are beautiful, but looks can be deceiving. Several rattles throughout car and horrible wind noise through windows. The back panel vibrates when the back speakers are on and it sounds like blown speakers. I drive about 1000 miles per month (95% highway) and the best I can do at a constant 60 to 65 mph is 22 mpg. Had the car in for warranty problems twice now and Ive only had it for 5 days. In that 5 days, have put 1400 miles on it and have decided to trade it off on a Nissan or Toyota. Have had a new GM car every 2 yrs and have watched GMs quality consistently decline. Its time for change. GM is history.

  • Big time hassle - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

This car has been in the shop non-stop since I bought it.First the fuel sensor, then a brake recall, now the dash is acting up-It has been in the shop 6 times for electronic problems. Engine cooling for temp outside of 40 degrees, it was 70. Turn signals broke, dash says no seatbelts on - everyone has belts on. Air bag says off when adult passenger in seat-or was it off-who the heck knows. I love the way this car handles and its comfort, but I am fed up. Data recorder was installed-said replace ignition switch, they did, 8 days later, same problems. Only 8000 miles and in the shop over 6 times-I had planned to keep this car until it dropped, but that has changed.

  • Outstanding - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I couldnt afford to insure a Dodge Charger R/T so I bought the LT2. Simple, clean almost Teutonic looking ebony interior/control layout. It handles well in the serpentine & is a very solidly constructed car, plus trunk is the size of my living room! I appreciate the excellent gas mileage for a large car & the E85 flex fuel capability. I drive a Ford CVPI 8-10 hours a day & the Impla is a real treat after work. I would recommend GM make this car RWD; & next time Ill get the LT3 or LTZ since Id like a few more ponys under the hood. The Impala just may kill the Camry.

  • Love it but hate it - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I really liked this car when I first got it. It had the looks and the and the styling of a good car. But looks can be deceiving. Since I had this car it had been in the shop more than 15 times and the remote keeps going out cause the modulators keep going out and I dont even want to get started about the problems. All Im gonna say its a bad car with good looks.

  • Impala LT-3.9L-Nice ride - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

I just purchased a 2006 Impala LT with the 3.9L engine. This car is suprisingly quiet and rather quick for a V6. The car gets up and goes and Ive been able to reach 29MPG on long highway trips(if you keep it at 70). The LT package with the optional 3.9L engine also includes the 17" wheels and real dual exhaust. This package makes the car look rather nice. The interior is great and the auto start standard was a good idea. This car is superior when compared to Accord, Camry, Altima and Ford 500. The LT-3.9L can be purchased for under 24,000 which makes it a great value as well.

  • Disappointed - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I was excited when I first got this Impala, had all the makings of a great car. After living with it for 2 1/2 months I am no longer thinking this is a great car. I have had back to the dealership 4 times so far as the keyless entry and tire pressure system is not working, still is not working. We are going to go for number 5 and a new bulletin that has come out. Also way more wind noise off doors then should be, dealer states it is acceptable per GM standards, not by my standards. Too bad this could have been a great car.

  • Very Satisfied - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Have driven the car well over 12,000 miles and have had no problems. On long cross country trips, it is a pleasure and comfort to be in. Has excellent performance in all types of driving enviorments.

  • Black Beauty - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

This car is fun to drive, large enough to transport 6 people, very quiet for its strength, and comes with onboard keyless remote entry programming built in. I find that when people are not letting others in on the freeway I get in smoothly because the car is full size and the delivery of strength and speed can be accessed easily. Only drawback is gas mileage. The car tells you how many miles you can go before the gas station and when it is best to change the oil.

  • A Great Value - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I am really impressed with this car. I think it provides a very classy car at a great price. It is extremely quiet and the bose stereo system is awesome. I love the styling especially the rear and side. I think it is conservative, but really good looking in a way that is not trendy in the way some cars are. It will remain in style for a long time. It has excellent trunk space and a very usable large trunk. I also really like the way the back seat folds. Anyone I have driven with in the car has been very impressed. I think that the car will be a big seller. I owned a 2003 Impala that I also liked, but this new Impala is far superior in every was. I would recommend it to anyone.

  • Lots of go for less gas! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Cant believe the fuel mileage when this 5.3L small block V8 drops down to the 4 Cyl mode. I made nearly 30MPG on a freeway trip! Average with combined driving has been in the low to mid 20s. When I step on this thing, it goes. I like the exterior. Great stereo. A little too much plastic on the dash, especially in front of the passenger seat. However, plasticy interiors seem to be the norm today. Cant beat the V8 rumble out of the dual exhaust. If you get too deep into the throttle the front tires will break loose and you will experience a little torque steer. All in all, while the car is very new, I have been extremely happy with the purchase.
