Overview & Reviews
The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.
- Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
- Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

Impala - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By DavidJump - November 16 - 6:00 amPerformance is excellent. I hit 80 before I realized it. It felt like I was at 60, given noise and road feel. Gas mileage for the trip from Dover, Delaware to Somerville New Jersey was very close to 30 MPG. In fact it exceeded the EPA estimate of 27 MPG for that vehicle. Build quality, fit and finish is clearly equal or superior to any similarly priced import. This car has the leather seats, which are very comfortable. The quality of workmanship from design to engineering to assembly and dealer prep that went into this car is impressive. The trunk is large and well thought out. Hardware is out of the way, so it doesnt interfere with cargo or luggage. To summarize - WOW!!!!!!

Impala SS - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Lumpy - November 2 - 6:13 pmThis car handles extremely well and has the power of a 1960s-1970s hi performance car (Ive had a few). The technology is great, showing my when tires are low, what gas mileage I get at any given time, and a lot more. This car is the best buy out there.

A Disappointment - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Kenboiler - October 1 - 8:36 amThis is basic, cheap, full-sized transportation. You get what you pay for. It gets really poor gas mileage as compared to the promise. Lots of road noise. Cheap Goodyear Infinity OEM tires. No cupholders in the back. No trunk access with a key. Absolutely no pizazz. I havent had a major problem, which is whats important, but its no wonder that Toyota is beating GM. I had a Suzuki before this and it was too small. I corrected that problem, but everything else has been a step down.

Excellent transportation at Chevy price - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Chevy lover - September 29 - 7:20 amPurchased this car brand new 4/06. No repairs done on this car, only oil changes and routine maintenance. Most reliable car owned. Chevy has a real winner here. When I see foreign cars on the road broken down, I laugh at those "reliable" cars. Any car will break down if not cared for, i.e. keep up maintenance schedule, treat it right and it will take care of you.

Pretty good so far! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Lynn F1 - September 27 - 10:26 amThe interior is much what I expected. The V8 and associated rumble are great! Im not impressed with the handling or braking, but Im kinda chalking that up to its being "just another Impala" - I dont mind terribly. Its fascinating to watch the driver display go from 4cyl to 8cyl. XM Radio is pretty cool, as are the 36! presets. Ditto moonroof, OnStar, steering wheel controls. Cant stand the auto door locks.

A very high quality, high value used car - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By robs6wagon - September 17 - 4:06 amI just recently purchased a 2006 black SS with every GM option, including the gorgeous black leather seats, XM, 6 disc, Bose, sunroof, etc. The driving experience is nothing short of exhilarating! The ride is very comfortable and smooth, especially for a sport suspension. The lines are beautifully sculpted on this car, both inside and out! The sound of the ultra smooth V8 coming out of those polished exhaust tips is better than many classic hot rods! I am looking forward to many miles of thoroughly enjoyable driving. If you are looking for the ultimate drivers package in a mid/large size sedan, the Impala SS is your car!

Simply the Best Buy in a Sports Sedan - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By priggly - August 12 - 12:36 pmThis car is simply the best automobile Chevrolet has offered for sale in a very, very long time, a grand example of sports sedan combined with high quality highway cruiser with its powerful engine, superior fit and finish, quiet cabin interior, awesome BOSE sound system and excellent gas mileage for its engine size (29.5 mpg at a steady 65 mph on the highway). The interior is superb with its high quality controls, gauge cluster, comfortable, quality leather seating, and general ambiance. Ergonomics are absolutely excellent. Handling, braking and transmission are top-notch. The tranny is especially smooth with effortless and imperceptible shifts. The exhaust note is exhilarating.

Lots of fun - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Russell Giuliano - July 30 - 5:00 amJust got a new SS. I went in to look at an old Jaguar, ended up buying new. I love the look of the new Impala (I liked the old one too). Im getting lots of compliments from co-workers, saying that it looks like a more expensive car than it is.
