Overview & Reviews
The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.
- Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
- Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

Proud Owner - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Arnold - April 25 - 12:03 amI get excellent gas mileage when driving the speed limit with cruise control. 37 mpg Canadian, 31 mpg American. With the aluminum block it heats up quicker in the winter, as I drive in Canada. Quiet and handles quite well.

Hot SS - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Bob James - March 28 - 8:23 pmI special ordered my Impalla SS and took delivery on July 25. This car drives like a dream and the handling is great. It will give a Camaro Z28 a real hard time. I traded a 02 Camaro Z28 and a 03 Chevtolet Impalla. This car gives me the best of both worlds. The preformance of the Z28 and the comfort of my Impalla. Thanks Chevrolet.

Great Car - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By deminin - March 21 - 5:36 amWe have had our 06 LTZ for about 3 months now, and it has been flawless. The more we drive this car, the better we like it. The build quality is excellent, the ride is firm, but not harsh, gas mileage is acceptable, and improving. The Bose radio is outstanding, and the car is very quiet, even at highway speeds. I would have to call this car an outstanding value for the money in todays car market.

21 visits to the dealership - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Barnes - March 20 - 10:00 amI love to drive the car when it is running. That said, I have been back to the dealership on 21 occasions with a variety of bugs. The dealer sent me to Chevy who said that if I dont qualify for the lemon law, (same issue each time) they dont have to do anything. Good Luck if you buy a 2006 Impala.

Love It - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By edwardo - February 19 - 4:50 pmI was looking for an everyday car for my wife that would be fun for me to drive on nights and weekends! We live in Maine so I decided to rule out the Charger because of rear wheel drive, and the Subaru WRX sti because she will not drive a stick. When we test drove the Impala I couldnt have loved it more. We have over 13,000 miles on the car already and neither of us get bored driving it when we get behind the wheel. The only problems we have had is who gets to drive and how much my replacement tires are going to cost once I burn these up. The remote starter also has malfuctioned and is kinda cheesey. All in all I would recomend it to anyone.

Problems, Problems, Problems - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By ECRISS - February 19 - 2:36 amI have loved everything about this car up until about a year after I bought it, Within the last four months I have had my tire sensors replaced numerous times. I have had my tires replace at no charge through the dealer, the steering shaft was replaced a month ago and today I had both front tie rods replaced! Something not of the norm at 24,000 miles. Poor, poor gas mileage! I was originally looking for an Acura, but wanted to stay American. Guess I made a wrong decision.

I like it - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By sysletem - February 12 - 2:33 pmThis is my first Impala. I drive over 45,000 miles per year . I wanted better gas mileage over my previous vehicle. I dont quite know if this is the vehicle either . But Im really impressed with everything else , the ride, power, interior . I have the black SS with completly tinted windows WOW. At 3500 miles I believe I can honestly say I get 24mpg on the highway and 18 in town . At this point Im glad I made this purchase.

Impala SS - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By ems - February 2 - 10:00 amFun to drive. My wife has driven to Boston a few times and she loves the way it handles and the power. She said she feels very safe an secure in it. Gas mileage is a little questionable.

My SS - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Mr. Bill - November 22 - 6:20 pmThe new Impala SS is comfortable, quiet, very powerful, and affordable. Gas mileage as I have tested on strictly highway is right where the window sticker has it at 27mpg. My commuting average with hour long traffic jams and stop and go traffic is 22mpg. I have always believed in supporting the US economy when I spend my hard earned dollars by buying American made products(foreign brands, even ones with US badges assembled here, 50 cents of every dollar goes back to the country of origin) and the Impala SS is 92% US and Canadian parts content with the engine and transmission made in the USA. The SS performance surprises the overweight HEMIs and Mustang GTs.
