This Year's Model Updates:

GM resurrected the Impala nameplate last year (a staple in Chevy's lineup from 1959 to the early '80s and then briefly from 1994 to '96) and put it on an all-new, full-sized sedan body that rides on the Lumina front-drive platform. Although the Lumina itself is still with us for the 2001 -model-year, Impala will eventually replace it as Chevy's large-car entry to battle the likes of Ford's Crown Victoria, Buick's LeSabre and Chrysler's LH cars.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, big brakes, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • So-so styling, no V8, wallowy suspension, big front-drive cars rarely sell as well as big rear-drivers.

  • I like it.... Impala LS 3.8L - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

I drive a lot of miles... Im retiring my Suburban with 327K miles from daily use. So when I went looking for vehicles, SUVs were first on the list. With the current political situation and the potential for rising gas prices, I looked at the Impala. Primarily for fuel mileage, but also because it has a roomy interior. I purchased this car with 37.4K miles on it. Im averaging 28+ mpg, at about a 70/30 highway/city mix. There is no indication of the cars age in performance, appearance, or operation. Its a very comfortable cruiser with ample room for 5 adults. The trunk is huge. I miss my Sub, but not at the gas pump.

Love this car. Drives well, great mileage, very comfortable and safe. The car is by far my favorite, especially with options like dual temperature controls (my girlfriend can stay warmer), a great stereo, very roomy, and steering wheel controls for radio and cruise...Oh! And I really like split split front seats with safety options like side air bags. This car was well designed and well built, Ill be keeping mine a long time.

We bought this car used with 32,000 miles and now I have over 122,000. Never had any problems except with rotors. Love this car. We are starting to look for something with less miles but wish I could buy this car over again (dont like the design of the new Impalas).

Bought this car, with 13,000 miles, and about 8 months old. Car now has 170,000 miles. First set of tires, lasted over 140,000 miles, there has been only one set of new rotors and two sets of brakes put on this car since new. Runs absolutely great, original plugs lasted 160,000 miles, just recently changed them. Have had some problems with the air conditioner, having to do with the way Chevrolet designed the system to work. Based on sensors, as to where they do or do not respond properly. Every problem that this car has had I fixed myself, as they were minor. This is and has been a great car.

  • Awsome - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

I love this car, its fun to drive, gets good mpgs: 21/32. Its huge and this car is a tank. Has been through a lot, got hit from a someone who blew a stop sign going 35 and my car only had 6400 worth of damage the other car lost badly. Its fun to drive. Im 18 so I like the gas pedal. You can take turns fast and when you put the pedal to the floor it goes right away. Only complaint is that the abs light keeps on coming on, and I wish it had more hp. Also its my summer work car and it holds 1500 lbs in the trunk with no problems. I will only buy a GM. I wish that they would actually put real bumpers on sedans instead of plastic tho. Metal is harder to dent, but with plastic you can pop it right out

  • 200000 miles plus easy with this vehicle - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

I have had my impala for 7 years now, with over 225000 miles, I still get 29 miles to the gallon average for all driving. I have only replaced the catalytic converter. It still has the same get up and go. It is wonderful on long trips. The only car I have ever owned that does not hurt my back after 12 hours of driving. I own three Chevys all over 200000 miles, one over 300000 miles, if you want minimal repairs and a long lasting vehicle, Chevys are your car, with Impalas leading the pack

  • Hard not to buy another one! - 2001 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Purchased this car new, just turned 170,000 miles on it! One major repair during this time which was normal wear other than that just had a problem with the sensor in the wheel for traction control which can be disengaged. This car has been wonderful. I am in sales and drive every day and then its the family car on the weekends with two kids and the dog. Its comfy for us and afforable. Im looking at getting a new car, figure its about time but cant bare to even think of trading this one in as its still going strong and while I would like something different just for a change, its hard not to buy another Impala since this has been so great. Oh, got the bigger V-6, sales rep suggested.

Purchased the car new in August 2001. Best car I have ever owned. I have owned 7 chevrolet products in the past.

  • Reliable Car! - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

This Impala is my first brand new car. It works great. But I have to mention several problems of it. First, in the winter time when temperature is very low, there is squeaking noise when braking slowly. Second, one of the door windows is a little shaking when it is not closed entirely. Third, the display on the screen will be faint out automatically. Anyway, its great and reliable car.

  • Best in class - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

This vehicle compares very favorably to other mid-sized domestic cars. The 3.8L V-6 is worth the extra money. I drive 40K miles per year, so its comfort and quiet ride are also welcome features. It is big enough to take a foursome golfing, with its ample legroom in back and cavernous trunk. It is slightly smaller than the Intrepid, but of better overall quality. It is hands down better than Taurus and Grand Prix.
