Overview & Reviews
The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.
- Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
- Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

Comfy, Roomy, Cool, but not Sexy - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By W. Moreno - November 24 - 9:53 pmPeople who ride in this car say things like, "I like riding in this. Its not a very good looking car, but its comfortable". The A/C here in LA is great. The ride is smooth, but not as quiet as Ive had it other cars this large. At 30,500 miles, after a 40 mile drive, the engine temp gauge went all the way to the top! It caught me off guard. I turned the heater on, but to no avail. I quickly pulled into a parking lot to check the radiator, and it was fine. Turns out the water pump went out. Thankfully, it was covered under warranty.

A true family car - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By JeeYem - November 22 - 5:03 pmAll new 2006 Impala is a run for the money. Beats Toyota Camry in roominess, crash safety ratings, performance and price. The black Impala looks like a premium car from outside, definitely stands out on the road. Impala sets the benchmark for large size family car. If you want roomy, comfortable sedan with "On your face" attitude, go for it. On the negative side, the door locks feel cheap and the side mirrors are small. Doors are heavy and hard to close. I hardly get 24 MPG on highway.

Try It Youll Like It! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Michelle - November 14 - 11:03 pmI would recommend this car for anyone who wants a luxury car at a very affordable price. It looks and drives great, and we havent had even a little problem with it. It hasnt been back to the dealer. We purchased the SS with leather seats and they are extremely comfortable. It should be called a large car because there is plenty of room inside and the size takes a bit of getting used to if you have been driving a smaller car. The only complaint I have is the gas mileage which is not what I expected since the sticke said it should get 28 mpg on the highway and the best we have ever gotten is 25 going 70 on the interstate with the cruise on. The 2008 now shows 16-24 which is much more accurate

2006 SS - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By ssowner - September 11 - 9:56 pmGreat vehicle. Still trying to sort out some bugs with the tire monitoring system with the dealer. Warning light on almost every trip. Had troubles with the block heater system, engine falsely recording overheat condition.

Nice car with a few quirks - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Johnny - July 16 - 12:36 pmLove remote start. Engine performance fine (acceleration at all speeds). Mileage decent (wish it were a little better). Handles pretty good. Stay away from the cloth interior. Dash makes some kind of noise (rubbing of some sorts). Seems to happen on bumpy roads. Trunk space nice

Love my Impala LT - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Diann - July 12 - 1:36 pmI went from a Chevy Tahoe to the Impala LT2. I simply love the way it drives, the gas mileage and sporty look. The trunk has so much room for this size car.

I love my Chevy - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By cedric - July 6 - 9:56 pmI am very impressed with this new 2006 Impala. The ride is great and very quiet compared to the previous generation. I am happy with fuel economy also. This car beats the gas mileage of my previous car, a 2004 Kia optima V-6

By Joe P. - May 10 - 1:10 amPurchased the car just before Thanksgiving to replace the old one that was past its time (the rust finally got to it). Have no complaints or problems with the car. Been getting an average of 25 mpg in the city and on the longer drives right around 29, although Ill admit Im a a bit of a leadfoot. Im very pleased with my purchase.

So Far So Good! My LTZ is a GREAT car! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Markj5362 - May 8 - 2:46 amI have now owned my 06 LTZ for 10 months and have driven it for 34,000 miles. This is a great car so far.I love the styling, ride, and features like XM and OnStar. Only had it in the shop once for an annoying rattle coming from the rear headliner. Found out it was the antenna bracket coming loose. Would like to see GM improve the climate control. Make it automatic like on the Regal/Lacrosse. This is my first Chevy for a while, so Im hoping it provides many trouble free miles. I have had Buicks in the past which have been very reliable cars.
