Overview & Reviews
The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.
- Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
- Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

Good value - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By majorpaynepoo - July 23 - 1:56 pmI purchased my Impala not knowing what to expect with front wheel drive and the Impala name on the same car. My car has the 3900 v6 and man it will fly. I love the space it affords me since Im 63" and 240 pounds, with the seat all the way back I can barely reach the pedals. I also have a Deville Concour and Im happier with the Impala than I ever was with the Caddy. I am happy with the redesign of the Impala also I think it looks elegant as well as sporty with the dual exhaust and deep sounding mufflers. Happy, yes only wish there were more exterior locks on this. There is not even a place to put a key in the trunk or passenger door. Design? I dunno....

Side impact totaled at 25mph - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Ron - June 25 - 2:33 pmI was hit by a vehicle on the passenger side in a 25mph zone and the car went up on two wheels, a tota ! With only 1,000 miles on it, the vehicle was considered worth only just over $18,000. It listed at over $25,000 three weeks earlier. I would never buy a GM product again, espically since I was nearly killed in this one -- air bags never went off either. GM was less than compasionate!

LT3 Impala new buyer - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Michael Capria - April 27 - 10:06 pmFormer Avalon driver, now in a 2006 LT3 Impala and after the first 300 miles Im impressed. Great dash info display. Smooth ride, comfortable seating, extra room even for a 6th (small) person with the column shifter. I never thought the remote start would be so handy but in a hot parking lot I can step into a cooled down car, nice.

Noisy - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Patrick - April 13 - 10:30 pmI have driven this car 700 miles since 1/3/06. I love the way it looks and its power but I cant stand the road noise. Those reviews that say its quiet and smooth are driving with the radio on, which is what I do now all the time. The brakes are great and being a senior citizen I like the OnStar feature. My last car was a 2003 Impala and what I miss in this car is the large rear window and normal size sideview mirrors of the 03. The rear defroster in the 03 was 3 times better than this new one also. It looks great outside and inside but this will be my last Impala. I got this car because my lease deal was excellent; it definitely wasnt my first choice.

Test drive and see for yourself - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Giza_wuta - April 6 - 7:20 pmIn my opinion, this car is simply awesome. Yes, the exterior can use a little more modification, but it is still a head-turner. Everyone that Ive spoke with about it loved it. As far as pure HP, I dont think your gonna beat it with any other sedan on the market. No I havent purchased a lot of sedan, but this is an animal on the highway. Going 80 mph seems like 50. The ride is smooth. The interior is nice also. Of course, everyone will have something bad to say about everything in life. Great vehicle.

Love this car! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Kelly - March 31 - 3:26 amI was looking for LTZ during the 0% sale and ended up with the SS due to availability, and I am glad I got the SS! Its fun and powerful, yet safe for a family. I hate the cupholders, only design flaw though, and Id buy another even though thats important for my commute (traded in 01 Impala LS with 102K+ miles). It has everything that I wanted and much more. Only downside is its a gas sucker even with the 4-8cyl flexibility, but I knew that going in, its a V8 with 303 horses for goodness sake, of course its not great on gas! Thats why I was looking for the LTZ, but like I said, glad I bought the SS! 250 miles so far, and Im still learning all the features, cause I just like to drive!

No Trunk Access If Battery Dies - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Alfred Refice - March 14 - 6:36 pmAfter I purchased the Impala, I found that the only way to open the trunk was the remote on the key-fob or a button on the dash - both of which are useless if the main car battery dies. The owners manual says if the battery dies the owner could access the trunk if a fold down rear seat is available. The base model LS does not have a fold-down rear seat, therefore, if the battery dies then all items in the trunk (such as jumper cables) are inaccessible.

Great car - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Leo - March 6 - 12:53 amI bought the LT2 Impala used, with 7000 miles, and have driven 1500 miles so far. The car rides great, gets 30 mpg in combination city/highway, (about 75% highway)which is better than the 02 Nissan Altima 4 cylinder I traded in, can use E85 ethanol, and is a much more comfortable car. Looked at Accord and Camry, but the Impala is a lot more car for the money. I have friends with Hondas and Toyotas, and they are not as trouble free as some would have you think. If you drive as much as I do, and want a solid, cofortable car, with great safety ratings, check out the Impala LT

Nice Job Chevrolet - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Steve - February 23 - 10:03 pmWe picked up our Black SS this last week. Were impressed with the car, very quiet, very powerful, and the interior and exterior fit and finish is a huge step up for GM. Love the power and handling. Lots of features for the money such as OnStar, heated seats, Bose sound system, XM radio, leather and power sunroof. Would like rear view mirrors to be larger and Chevrolet to offer a navigation and DVD player as well as auto climate control, but quite nice as is. We like our SS. Compared to Dodge Charger and Ford 500, Ford is underpowered and Dodge, while great HEMI power, lacks fit and finish and refinement of SS. Would like Chevrolet to implement rear drive for next Impala

The Impala is back - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Mike Davenport - December 9 - 10:10 pmFinally, I can buy an Impala Im not ashamed of. The new 2006 is awesome. It handles great. Is comfortable on a long trip. Has plenty of room. and the fuel economy for a large car is great. The first week I had the car I drove on a 600 mile trip each way. It was more comfortable than the Chrysler 300 & TownCar I rented for another recent trip. This is the real deal finally for Cheverolet.
