This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

If you want a car that is a smooth ride on the highway but at the same time fun to drive this is the car for you. Depending on how far you go, it eats up gas, but thats what happens when you go to a bigger car. Overall, I can go down the highway and before I know it I am doing 80 mph or more.

I am very impressed. Have found nothing wrong with the car. I have owned 7 Corvettes. This is my wifes car and it impresses me with the Vette like performance prior to 1997. We bought an Impala LS in 2000, but this one puts it to shame. I look forward to driving it when my wife lets me. Chevrolet has outdone itself and has a winner here. I love the polished aluminum wheels and the exhaust rumble. Fantastic automobile!

I had to buy a new vehicle after an accident. I did a lot of research and I had narrowed it down to the Imapla and a Camry. I drove an 07 Impala and decided that was the car (I bought an 06 to get the price break). The LTZ has the 3.9L engine. It is very powerful, even in a car the size of the Impala. The seats are just great. The leather is soft and comforatble. The interior styling is very clean and refreshing. The trunk is huge! I really think GM has gotten much better. They think of little things that you just dont find in other cars like the delayed door locking allowing you to open another door after pushing the lock button. Very nice!

  • Great Car - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Ive had my Laser Blue SS for about a month now, and in my opinion its a great car. Its very comfortable, quiet, and rattle free. With 93 Octane gas Ive been averaging about 19 mpg with mixed driving, and the motor is very strong and smooth. FYI this car will also fit two car seats and a booster seat in the back. So far, the build quality / fit and finish seem great. I havent noticed any defects, and you dont hear the road or the wind much at all. The car handles great for a large 4-door sedan, it really seems to stick to the road well. Also, the Bose stereo sounds great, and the MP-3 player input is very convienent.

if you are considering this SS....buy it...buy it...love the car, nice rumble at all times. is sneaky fast you will definetly have watch the speedometer, 80 mph comes on quickly, my wife even likes it. Fuel economy with my lead foot to 60 every time,he he he, very acceptable 18 or so, DOD is not even noticeable, there should be a warning sticker that says "2 hands on the wheel" mash the gas, 2 hands or hit the ditch.....some call it torque steer, I call it too much engine on good tires.

This car handles very well, is comfortable to drive, gets great gas mileage (30 highway), and looks sharp. We own the LT2 in Glacier Blue Metallic w/sunroof, flip & fold seats, XM radio. You cant go wrong for the price.

  • My 3rd Impala - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

This is my 3rd Chevy Impala. I am normally a truck type of girl, but in 2000 my husband took me to see a red Impala LS at 9pm on my birthday! I fell in love with it, bought it next day. I then up graded to a fully loaded LS in 2002 (also red) with sunroof and all extras. In 2005 he talked me into a GMC crew cab tk, that lasted until I drove a 2006 Impala LTZ (white this time...didnt like red that year) bought it in June 06. Absolutely love it. I have taken it on road trips to Portland, OR, several trips to Branson, MO and at least 3 to Wichita, Ks. Car now has 14500 miles and still rides awsome. Note... K&N airfilter helped with my gas mileage and take off quite a bit.

  • Just as good as the imports - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Got my 3.9 Impala in July and have had nothing but rave compliments about the interior. My best friend has a 2006 Camry and tells me every time hes in my ride that I have a better looking interior. I love that next gen 3.9L and think if it isnt the best six out there it ranks in the top five. If they slap in that new 6 speed this would be a perfect drive train matching anything foriegn or domestic.

The 2006 Impala SS that we bought was the first one in our area. Other Chevy dealers would stop us and ask to check it out because they couldnt get one. This car is not only very powerful but very comfortable to drive and ride in. The rear seat is one of the best to get into and also has one of the most comfortable rides I have ever seen. The fuel mileage is not the greatest but we get about an average of 22.5 mpg during the warm months and 21.6 during the winter. The highest we have gotten was 24.6 mpg. My 2004 Impala SS has a 3.8 Supercharged engine and it averaged 30.4 mpg on a trip to Oklahoma.

  • Overall.. fun car to drive - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

A full sized car that handles like a hot rod, comfortable, good looking car. I am used to driving performance cars in the past. I could not believe the power the ss has to offer along with the handling. I am also pleased with the braking capabilities of the ss. No problems as yet, but still early to tell. I purchased the extended warranty just due to the engine and transmission.
