This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

  • SS with some KICK! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Purchsed the Impala SS in October 2005, Looked at the 2006 Charger RT Hemi, but I couldnt get past Mopars poor styling on the front end of this vehicle. I think Dodge is staying with the truck look even in the passenger dept. The grille looks like a Dodge Dakota/Ram. Go for the SS. It can really kick some ____ ! So far we luv our Impala 28 mpg. Not bad for a performance car with some room.

I love this car. It has a smooth, quiet drive. I have never had a problem with it. My wife drives it on business trips and I never worry about it breaking down.

The Chevrolet Impala SS is a fun car to drive. My wife and I just love the new V-8 engine. It is very responsive to all drivind needs. Before this SS, I drove an Impala and my wife a Z-28. This car gives us both what we want in a car. I like the size and comfort and my wife likes the power. With the 06 SS we get the best of both worlds. Way to go, GM.

  • Great Car - Fun to Drive - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

This is my first Chevrolet and my first GM product since having complete disappointment in a 1990 Pontiac Grand Am. Chevy has hit the mark with this car. Its fun to drive and very comfortable. The 3.9L engine has plenty of pickup but you lose mpg as a result. Overall, I get about 23 mpg which is still pretty good. The only thing that is annoying is a clicking noise that comes and goes. The service department has not been able to identify where it is coming from.

I wanted the biggest car I could get with lots of room and comfort for the lowest possible price. Thats what I got. Good acceleration and passing power. But the engine seems to lug when turning the corner from a stop. Whats up with that?

  • Powerwindow Squeals /trim is coming off - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Great car. But it has been to dealer twice for them to repair screeching driver window. The last time was 2 days ago. Window is still squealing. The trim is coming off on driver side where the doors meet. Both doors have peeling trim? What the heck? The car has 5000 miles on it? Love the car but becoming very disappointed in my new car.

  • 4th Chevy, 2nd Impala - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

What a great car! The ride, handling, interior comfort and design are far superior to my 01 Impala! Acceleration and braking are wonderful, and it has a much stiffer suspesion. Not a sports car, but this car is comfortable, fun to drive, and looks sporty yet elegant. A terrific family car that honors the drivers instincts. Right out of the dealership I am getting 34 MPG on the hightway with AC running! And it takes "Flex Fuel" to boot!- I am very satisfied with this vehicle. Chevy has a real hit here.

  • On demand power and high mileage, too. - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Traded my 2000 Impala LS last month on a new 2006 Impala SS. Loved the sporty look of the new chevy. Got a black one with the neutral interior. The dealer said that the neutral interior is hard to get in this model but I just loved the light color. Very classy upscale look. Had no problems with the car. Tons of power when you need it but drive it soft and you will get 30 miles to the gallon. I test drove the LTZ model but I didnt think the 3.9 liter engine performed near as well as 3.8 Buick built engine that the older Impala LS had. Not as much power and lower MPG. Then, I drove the SS and it had the power I wanted with mileage and the sporty look. Drive it and buy it.
