This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

  • Love the power! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

The 2006 Impala has quick pick up and power that makes it fun to drive. We love to drive it and the kids friends think its a cool car.

  • Best buy for the money - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

This car drives like a luxury automobile for less than half the price. The standard features of the LTZ model (e.g. side air bags, plush leather seating, premium stereo system, etc.)make this car a real bargain. These features were all optional and expensive on all the foriegn cars that I looked at. The ride and mileage were extra bonuses. I receive 26.5 mpg at an average speed of less than 38 mph. I would encourage everyone looking for a new car to take the time and compare the price and ride with any other model in its class. The controls are very easy to use and program.

Driven at 60 to 65 mph achieve 26 mpg, around town achieves 18 mpg. Build quality and vehicle acceleration are excellent.

  • Could you ask for more? - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I drove other SS Impalas before finding a GM car with 4800 miles on it for thousands less than a new 07. Have owned Corvettes, Mustangs, RX-7s, and several Turbo cars. This car offers all of the above performance, with the ability to go shopping, seat 5 adults, and have a nice road feel. I was waiting for the 09 Camero, but, at 46 opted for the street sleeper.

  • Hang On - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Wow is all I can say. When you drop the hammer on this thing it really goes! I love how quiet it is at crusing speed. Yes its thirsty but my Focus was at best 26 MPG and this car is way up on the fun factor. The hands free phone is an added bonus stereo rocks even though Im a Sirus subscriber. So far so good! I do think Ill lower it a bit.

The fully-loaded LTZ is a beautiful automobile. The ride is smooth and very quiet. This was high on my list of requirements and the car came through. The sound system is very good and the seats are comfortable. The computer in this car manages just about everything imaginable. (Even the starter. I used the remote start and turned the key too far when I got in. However the computer stopped the starter from kicking in. Good forward thinking, Chevy.)

  • Subtle and Startling COmbined - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

When I took this car out for a test drive I nudged it a little bit and it seemed responsive. Later the salesman told me now I want you to stomp it when I say "OK". Damn, I am 65 years old and this sucker took off like a jack rabbit. He pointed out about the on the demand compression (4 cylinders vs. 8) and then I drove it some more. What at performer. While I will be rarely stomping it, it is good to know you have that awesome power just in case you dearly need it. For some reason my SS did not come with XM radio. I do not know what happened but the salesman told me it just was not in there. When I got home I did not notice it listed as having come with the car? Will have to make do.

  • Sporty Family Car - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

We have owned this car for a short time, but it has been all that we could have hoped for. It is a good looking and functional family car. Great power for the racer in you!

It has all the bells and whistles. A great car to have and drive. Only one in Greensboro NC. But it is a gas guzzler.14 to 15 mpg .

  • The best ride - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

I also own a minivan, and this car is just as comfortable a ride as the minivan. The trunk is larger than any car Ive ever owned, yet the body is designed such that you dont feel as though youre driving grandmas car. Its more like a sports car.
