This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

The Impala SS is a solid fun to drive car. Fit and trim are excellent. I love the power and DOD as well. I miss my Trans Am but this car is much more comfortable and practical. It sounds great. All the neighbors had to come see it. Compares favorably against the imports...regards

  • Good but not the best - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Since I own my Impala SS, it rates high on the fun level but med on the design level. The seat risers had to be replaced, along with the steering shaft. I had computer issues the remote start, starting distance was reduced down to about 5 feet from well over a 100 feet when I first bought the car. But outside of the little minor glitches the car is really fun to drive and own. Gas miliage is no where near what it was rated. But I have learned to use cruise control more and less foot. I still love the car.

Just traded 98 STS that I drove for 140k miles. My new SS has been evrything I expected. Way more fun to drive, plenty of performance but a little short on acessories as compared to the STS. I live in the Northeast so the fwd is necessary, but the torque steer is NOT an issue. Educated drivers paying attention to road conditions will enjoy this vehicle at a very competitive price. Do I miss my 2 driver memory settings and heated rear seats, sure, but I dont miss the service costs that came with the $52k msrp STS. I am enjoying the "sleeper" that this car is when all those soccer Moms try to pass me on the right. Good Luck!

  • Hate it! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

The only good thing is it is roomy. I have had so many problems with this car I traded in my Subaru Baja for more room but I hate the day I lost my Subie. The cloth on the seats has fuzz balls on them and they catch dirt so bad. The rotors have had trouble and it keeps a vibration that they cant keep fixed for more than a few weeks. I cant even type all the things I hate about this car. It declined in value more than any car I have ever had. I usually trade about once a year and I usually do pretty good but this is the first car I have been upside down in. I gave $17,000. For it less than a year ago and it only has 32,000 miles on it and now it only books for 9 to $10,000. Very sick over that!

  • Keep up the good work GM - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I recently bought a 3LT Impala and am already convinced it is the best vehicle Ive ever owned. GM put a lot of time and effort into refining the exterior and interior with over 1,000 new parts compared to the previous generation. The 3.9 engine has lots of power, makes good mileage, and the transmission shifts smoothly. The car has an air of luxury about it, but without the price.

Great car love the fact that it runs on gas or E85. The DIC is a very nice feature. Very quite and smooth at all speeds.

  • Trading Down - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Recently traded in our 2005 Tahoe for the 2006 Impala, the main reason being the price of gas. The Impalas ride, performance and gas mileage are very respectable, as is the interior room. The new look for 2006 puts it right up there with oter cars in its class. Interior nice, but a little on the bland side, as is most Chevys.

I have owned three Impalas ranging from 2001 to 2006. Still own all three. I am very pleased with the new 2006 model. Comfortable ride, good gas mileage, very nice interior and exterior improvements. Test drove several cars, still came back to the Impala for overall value.

  • Everything rocks except Bose - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Helped my sister find a car and ended up buying one for myself. Hers is a 3LT, mine an SS. Love the engine, exhaust sound, power, build quality, and functionality. I traded my 02 Monte Carlo SS and my only regrets are the seats and the Bose sound system. The seats lack lateral support and regardless of what source you listen to, there is a hiss at anything less than 50% volume on the Bose system; very frustrating if you want to relax with the volume low.

I bought this car as my everyday, to- and-from work car. Shortly after purchase, I got a work assignment that had me travel out-of-town (175 miles) each week. This car was a delight for that travel. First of all, I get superb gas mileage - better than the EPA estimates. I averaged 32-34 mpg on my out-of-town trips and in my normal commuting (city/freeway mix) I get about 26. Amazing for a car like this! It is very comfortable, quiet and smooth, has plenty of power, and looks and handles well. I got the satellite radio option and use it a lot. The sound system (base model) is great. I love having the built-in hands-free phone. I dont use it a lot, but when I do it is a great feature.
