This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

  • Outstanding - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I couldnt afford to insure a Dodge Charger R/T so I bought the LT2. Simple, clean almost Teutonic looking ebony interior/control layout. It handles well in the serpentine & is a very solidly constructed car, plus trunk is the size of my living room! I appreciate the excellent gas mileage for a large car & the E85 flex fuel capability. I drive a Ford CVPI 8-10 hours a day & the Impla is a real treat after work. I would recommend GM make this car RWD; & next time Ill get the LT3 or LTZ since Id like a few more ponys under the hood. The Impala just may kill the Camry.

  • Impala LT-3.9L-Nice ride - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I just purchased a 2006 Impala LT with the 3.9L engine. This car is suprisingly quiet and rather quick for a V6. The car gets up and goes and Ive been able to reach 29MPG on long highway trips(if you keep it at 70). The LT package with the optional 3.9L engine also includes the 17" wheels and real dual exhaust. This package makes the car look rather nice. The interior is great and the auto start standard was a good idea. This car is superior when compared to Accord, Camry, Altima and Ford 500. The LT-3.9L can be purchased for under 24,000 which makes it a great value as well.

Have driven the car well over 12,000 miles and have had no problems. On long cross country trips, it is a pleasure and comfort to be in. Has excellent performance in all types of driving enviorments.

This car is fun to drive, large enough to transport 6 people, very quiet for its strength, and comes with onboard keyless remote entry programming built in. I find that when people are not letting others in on the freeway I get in smoothly because the car is full size and the delivery of strength and speed can be accessed easily. Only drawback is gas mileage. The car tells you how many miles you can go before the gas station and when it is best to change the oil.

  • A Great Value - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I am really impressed with this car. I think it provides a very classy car at a great price. It is extremely quiet and the bose stereo system is awesome. I love the styling especially the rear and side. I think it is conservative, but really good looking in a way that is not trendy in the way some cars are. It will remain in style for a long time. It has excellent trunk space and a very usable large trunk. I also really like the way the back seat folds. Anyone I have driven with in the car has been very impressed. I think that the car will be a big seller. I owned a 2003 Impala that I also liked, but this new Impala is far superior in every was. I would recommend it to anyone.

  • Lots of go for less gas! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Cant believe the fuel mileage when this 5.3L small block V8 drops down to the 4 Cyl mode. I made nearly 30MPG on a freeway trip! Average with combined driving has been in the low to mid 20s. When I step on this thing, it goes. I like the exterior. Great stereo. A little too much plastic on the dash, especially in front of the passenger seat. However, plasticy interiors seem to be the norm today. Cant beat the V8 rumble out of the dual exhaust. If you get too deep into the throttle the front tires will break loose and you will experience a little torque steer. All in all, while the car is very new, I have been extremely happy with the purchase.

  • A Great Car - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I traded in a 1997 Camaro Z28, so Im no stranger to having a lot of ponies under the hood and wasnt expecting to be impressed by the acceleration of this car, but I was pleasantly surprised. It doesnt handle quite as well as the Camaro (as one would expect being a sedan), but it rides great. I think it might would outrun the Camaro in a drag race. Vast quantities of room (including a huge trunk) combined with many great features (including tire pressure monitor) leave you feeling like youre in a vehicle that costed a lot more than this one does. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants the practicality of a sedan with the heart of a sports car.

  • Best Chevrolet Ive owned. - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

This car is what Detroit should have been making for the last several years. It is comfortable to drive, quiet from road noise, and extremely fast. It is a pleasure to drive on the highways and has more than enough power to please. Chevrolet has a winner in the 2006 Impala SS.

I like everything pretty much. Ride is a little mushy. XM radio is a bust. It is not commerical free and there is a lot of blank spots.

  • Nice for the Price - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

As an owner, I am pleased at the handling this car has to offer. If I were to go on what this site said the car had to offer, I wouldnt have purchased this car. I am well pleased with the countless features that are available at this base level. My wife and I enjoy XM satellite, anti lock brakes, rear spoiler, OnStar, nice aluminum wheels, power seat, remote start, not to mention the interior room. The car has enough zip with the V6, that I would not have considered a V8 for the price difference. This car is driven about 80 miles a day and is quite comfortable. As for negatives, I would like to have seen larger mirrors for better visibility and, the styling is boring, not like the old ones
