Overview & Reviews
The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.
- Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
- Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

Love It! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Happy New Owner - June 10 - 7:46 amI absolutely love the 2006 Impala SS. It handles like a dream and extremely fun to drive. I am not sure why it is categorized as a sedan because it performs like a sports car. You need to pay attention to your speed becuase you will fly in this vehicle without even realizing it. And when it switches from 8 cyl. to 4 cyl, you dont even know it. And if youre looking for an interior with roomy comfort, this car gives you that and does not look like you are driving grandpas car. Would highly recommend the SS.

Worthy Replacement for my DeVille - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Rich - June 4 - 9:43 amHave had this car for only about 3 weeks now, but the longer I drive it the better I like it. Good ride, comfortable, quiet. Quite peppy with the 3.9V6, yet getting about 22 MPG city and 32 highway. I traded in a 2000 DeVille, and this car is a very worthy replacement for a fraction of the price.

Reliable - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By nb_mike - June 3 - 7:21 pmI have had two years now. Hwy mpg 26-27.5 which is quite good for 8 cylinder. Around town mixed city/hwy only 14-16 not good with prices now a days. Overall quality is good. Lots of wind and tire noise at highway speed. Would buy another but probably the LTZ version with the 6/3 DOD. Good front seat legroom.

City driving - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By slotcars - June 2 - 10:10 amThis car is good. We bought this car as a demo with 33,000 miles. It has all of the options. The remote start went out at 52,000 miles. Thank goodness for the extended warranty on it. Right now the check engine light is on. Other than that in my opinion this is a great car. Rides over bumps that would take out other cars. I even rode over a cement parking border by mistake. No damage to the car

Best Car Ever - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Pete - May 16 - 1:43 amI am thrilled with the new Impala. A way better car than the Ford 500, and performance, fuel efficiency, and interior space are beyond the Camry and Accord. Interior styling fit and finish are awesome and a hugh improvement over prior Impalas and most of the competition. The plant that built it in Canada has the highest qulaity of any auto plant on earth according to JD Power, so I expect a trouble free ownership.

35000 in one year and still going - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By angimp21 - May 11 - 7:53 pmI bought this car preowened after totaling my 05 impala and like the 05 not a dissapointment. The car origanaly had 25,000 miles when I bought it and in a year have put a little more than 35,000 more and have had no major mechanical problems just normal wear and tear. The only problem that I am having is that the the front tires bushings have too much play and are wearing out my tires real fast. At about 65k now the cars engine is still quiet runs smooth. No major complaints except the obvious much needed cup holders and in increase of quality like the seats fabric but that is minor stuff. The bigger issues are in the front suspension from the cheap brakes to the faulty bushings

Fun Family Car - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Kelly S - May 2 - 6:01 pmBought it as a demo. Love the car, hate the minor problems. Sunroof vibrates, been "fixed" 2x, needs to go in again, tire problem no one can seem to fix, drivers door came out of alignment, more squeaks and rattles than youd every expect, "clunking" in the font end was a problem with a steering shaft-same problem we had with an 04 LS. We had leased the 04 LS and liked it and test drove the SS at the end of our lease and fell in love, decided to buy. The kids love when mom burns the tires asking my husband to run errands is never a problem. This car is fun, quick, & sharp looking- but hoping to sell/trade it b4 the warranty runs out. GM can do better. Our brand loyalty is running out.
