Overview & Reviews
The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.
- Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
- Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

SS review - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By wcslivik - September 19 - 6:02 pmLove the performance. It will beat just about any car on the road. Extermely nice to get in and out of traffic. I get so many comments about the ride. I am averaging 21 mpg, but I ramp on it a bit too. Im sure I could sqeeze 23 mpg average if I drive concervative. I love the mufflers, they arnt exactly flowmaster, but arent the stock Silverodo mufflers where you cant hear anything. Its perfect. The stereo is amazing. The only problem Ive had with it is the AC outlets lost power, but other than that its an amazing car.

Great Basic Transportation - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By SC Driver - September 15 - 5:01 amThis is a very good car for a fair price. Fuel economy is great on the highway in the winter averaging over 32 MPG, but the AC decreases this to 28.5 MPG. Fit and finish is good and the car is holding up well fairly well even when driving it 13,000 miles/month. In short, the cost per mile calculation for this car has been better than any vehicle I have ever had. Where and tear is beginning to show at 3 years, but I will be getting another Impala next month.

A good car. - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By merquisez - September 11 - 5:43 amI dont know why people are having problems with their Impalas. My Impala works well inside and out. I think it comes down to TLC and regular maintenance. Its a great car for the highways, and a great car for economy for its size. I have 85000 kms on it now.

Best car I have owned - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By wayne heidt - September 4 - 2:06 pmI had a Monte Carlo (2003), and it was great. But the Impala is a far better vehicle for ride, and the supercharged engine has the power to pass when you want to

Best I had - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Mario - August 29 - 12:02 amWas purchased without my wife around. Fell in love at first drive. My wife hated it for its large interior front seats until she drove it for an errand. She also fell in love with the power although scared because of the front end torque. Overall strength of the body is poor with a bent door with a wind gust but it is the best overall experience I had with a car. Very good gas economy on highways.

Very dependable car - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Will - August 19 - 9:11 amOnly one small problem in 2 1/2 years of ownership, one tire switch monitor keeps on going out but zero other problems after 41000 miles. As a frequent car changer every year or two but I foresee keeping this car for at least 2-5 more years.

Impala SS CD player blues - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Kevin Rickard - August 14 - 1:03 amI love my new Impala. Fun to drive, delivers everything I wanted. Only problem I have had is the CD player. The first time I tried to put one in it would not let me. Had to take it back to the shop for them to verify the failuer and back again to have the whole radio replaced. New unit works great but I think they should add a CD check to their final inspection routine. Otherwise, thanks Chevrolet for a great car.

Falling apart - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By 2006 impala - August 5 - 8:47 amFirst year no problems. Now the front end needs work, passenger window squeaks like a banshee, front headlight lens leaks, drivers seat coming apart, side molding peeling like a banana. It only has 26,000 miles. Thankfully I have an extended warranty! No telling what will happen next. I might give GM one more shot. The future looks like a Honda

Not Happy - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Jim J. - August 2 - 1:10 amLife long Chevy driver, I am very disapointed with my new car. In to dealer twice already (1500 miles) vibration and ticking from the engine when brake is applied at a stop light or sitting in traffic. "New engine" so what, make it right before you send it out. 3.8 V6 was better. Service people are great and I believe they are trying, but I do not like driving this car at this point. Hopefully after further trips in to dealer and more aggravation they will be able to fix it. This is not what one expects when buying a new car!
