This Year's Model Updates:

OnStar is now standard on all models, and a new Sport Appearance Package is optional on the base Impala. Other than that, changes are limited to minor trim updates.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey and efficient V6 engines.
Cons:
  • Vague steering, soggy suspension on base and LS models, low-buck interior.

I had a 98 Plymouth voyager that I traded in on my new Chevy. My wife divorced me and I wanted something for myself that I could depend on winter and summer for at least the next 10 to 15 years.

It is a comfortable car that has room for five and a sixth with some discomfort in the middle front. The comfort for the sixth passenger could be better. I wanted the capacity for six people and this one of few cars that have it. The trunk had adequate capacity for six people for a week on a recent trip (one infant)where we made large pruchases at the Mall of America. It gets over 30 miles gallon on the road. It is a quite car with good handling and I have had no problems with it.

  • A lot to like! - 2005 Chevrolet Impala

Just purchased a 2005 Impala Base model with 13K miles, have had it almost a month. Very, very quiet interior, easy to read guages, logical controls that are well placed and easy to use with gloves on in the winter time. Seat is bit soft for my taste but its very comfortable nonetheless. Handles as it should, not a Porsche, but a quiet, well built, easy and low maintenance 6 passenger sedan with great fuel economy. Edmunds needs to get over the dash/interior -they make it out to be junky - which it is not. Its functinal, easy to read, easy to use - what do they want in a 4-door sedan? Add a few more thousand for real wood if thats what makes them happy - for me, its perfect!

Upgraded from a Cavalier so the extra room is awesome! Like the big car feel and the extra 2 doors. The ride is nice & smooth at normal driving speeds, having On-Star and the Chevy computer advisor are also nice features, great car for the money...

  • Impala...What more could you want? - 2005 Chevrolet Impala

OK, first of all...Id not even compare this car to anything else. I simply could never find anything I like as well as the Impala or the Monte Carlo. I have owned a 2000,2002,2003,& this 2005. I strayed away once, just once & came back to what I knew was an amazing car. Trouble free, fantastic gas mileage (have got 35mpg twice now on hwy), classic Chevy looks & comfort for tall people like me. Another thing is, I dont feel like a nerd driving it like I would a Camry, Accord or Jetta!

  • Sporty and Practical - 2005 Chevrolet Impala

I bought a used 2005 Impala and absolutely love it. I feel like Im driving a sports car, yet I can load up the family and go. Great gas mileage for a V-6 (29 - 31 mph). The ride is very quiet, smooth, and comfortable. You get a lot of value for your money, as even the base line model feels sporty and has lots of "extras." The crash-test ratings were fantastic too which should make my insurance company happy.

  • Awesome Family Sedan - 2005 Chevrolet Impala

Now that I have wife and kids I had to give up the z28 for a family sedan. Very solid car that is very comfortable to drive. Better gas mileage than my wifes Subaru. Ive been getting 24 mpg city and 31 on the high way. We got the 3.8 liter engine based on the durability that we and other family members have had with it in older GM cars. We also got the sport touring suspension that comes standard with the LS, however, the ride still feels fairly soft and vague - it should not be confused with the sport touring designation that you hear about with Saabs, BMWs, etc. However it is the only car I have driven that my back feels better after 200 miles of highway driving than before!

  • This is an amazing family car. - 2005 Chevrolet Impala

This is an amazing family car. I can fit three pairs of skiis, a snowboard, boots, and luggage in the trunk and five people in the car and the drive is still good, still powerful. This car has great acceleration and agility without excessive lean, on the road in the summer and winter. I am the only one who can get up my steep hill in the winter with my Impala without slipping and sliding.
