This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

  • Impala GAS (SS) - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I was in the market for an SUV and I wanted a foreign brand. I felt a loyalty toward American cars so went to a dealer to look at a TrailBlazer. I saw the Impala SS, test drove it, and was hooked. I forgot how fun it was to drive--it all came back to me when I touched the gas pedal. This was the CAR. I am not a fan of leather so I was happy to find a black Impala with cloth. I also have a 2005 Accord V6 coupe. The mpg listed on the sticker is 29 HGWY, my Impala is listed at 28, a one mile difference, but that is as close as the Honda can come to the Impala. OnStar, remote start, power, ride. I would like to use reg gas in it though.

Handles good, nice sounds, OnStar, gas mileage, looks smaller than what it is, trunk space sunroof, tire size. Smoothness!

  • The Perfect Car! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

This car is absolutely perfect. I bought it early Janurary as a second car. I thought I would like my Honda Accord better, but this Chevy has proven me wrong. I drive a lot, so I like to own two cars to spread out the mileage. However, I cannot stop driving my Impala. The Honda sits in the driveway, this one is just that much better. The engine is fast, the brakes are unbelievable. My brother has an LS version, that is the one with the V6, and he says it is still a nice engine. I like the SS look of this car, I would recommend it to anyone.

I have had my Impala LTZ for two weeks now and can say that it is one of the better cars I have driven in a long time. The car rides and drives great and the 3.9L engine has plenty of power to get the big sedan up and moving. As far as the Bose radio system is concerned I have not had a problem with background "hiss" but have heard that some cars have had this problem so I will count myself among the lucky. All in all this is a great sedan for the money. If you don’t care for the styling and all you have seen it in is pictures you have to see it in person to do it justice. You also have to remember that this car isn’t meant to be edgy its a vehicle that they want to appeal to the masses.

  • 06 Impala, the best yet - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Purchased this vehicle in September 05. My wife & I may keep this vehicle FOREVER. Its FUN (a little torque steer on hard accel can be forgiven & easy to get used to), Laser Blue is BEAUTIFUL; lots of looks & comments; all good+. It can get good gas mileage but its hard not to jump on it once in awhile which doesnt help mileage. Engine & exhaust sound fabulous. My brother purchased a new Mustang GT (which is also fun to drive) but he & I both prefere the SS if you are driving any distance. I would rate the Bose sound system at an 8 (very good, not great). More fun to listen to the exhaust sound (especially with the sunroof open but OK without).

  • Well done - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Ive driven my LTZ for a month now. I have great praise for it. Didnt have any of the quality problems mentioned in one of the reviews. Tightly made. Drives well. Great styling. Lots of compliments from the office staff in our lunch excursions. Even got praise from the office Ford fan. Im getting an overall 24 mpg city and highway mileage.

  • The best, fastest, most fun - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I traded a 2000 Impala for the 06 SS and I am pleased. 0-60 is about 4.5 sec and 60 to 80 is like lightning. I have the full package and am very pleased. Fully satisfied so far. It is a thirsty car but hopefully gas will stabilize

  • Best Impala Ever Built - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I picked up my new 2006 Impala SS, in August. The new style 2006 Impala SS is the BEST Impala SS ever built so far. Comfort, style, appearence, easy to learn gadgets, fun to drive and outstanding performance. The DOD V8 is fantastic. This 2006 Impala Super Sport is going to be a collectable classic in years to come. It was worth the wait!

Performance is excellent. I hit 80 before I realized it. It felt like I was at 60, given noise and road feel. Gas mileage for the trip from Dover, Delaware to Somerville New Jersey was very close to 30 MPG. In fact it exceeded the EPA estimate of 27 MPG for that vehicle. Build quality, fit and finish is clearly equal or superior to any similarly priced import. This car has the leather seats, which are very comfortable. The quality of workmanship from design to engineering to assembly and dealer prep that went into this car is impressive. The trunk is large and well thought out. Hardware is out of the way, so it doesnt interfere with cargo or luggage. To summarize - WOW!!!!!!

This car handles extremely well and has the power of a 1960s-1970s hi performance car (Ive had a few). The technology is great, showing my when tires are low, what gas mileage I get at any given time, and a lot more. This car is the best buy out there.
