This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

The 06 Impala SS is a masterpiece in quality and beauty. It was an intoxicating experience from the moment I turned the ignition on for a test drive. This Chevrolet exhumes 100 percent luxury and unimaginable power.

I love this car. Chevrolet did a great job on the upgrade from the 2005 models. Performance and styling compares equal to or better than any simularly classed sedan out there. This is the value sleeper of the class.

I just bought this 2006 Impala LT 3.9L V6 all is great but the engine idles rough and when you are in drive it sound and feels like the motor is under heavy load or that the RPMS are to low but overall I like the car and its fun to drive.

  • Intial Thoughts - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Picked up my ordered 2006 on Tuesday the 26th so I am not trying to give a detailed review yet, but some intial thoughts after the first week of owning it. I traded a 2004 SS with 9800 miles because I wanted the all new model. The 04 was a great car (no problems) and I sort of wondered if I would be sorry I did a trade. The new style I find more pleasing to me except I am a bit disappointed with the front end design (looks like a large smiling mouth to me). The rear end looks great, and the interior, although still looking less then impressive, is passable. I do have a slight squeak noise in the right front interior somewhere such as possible plastic trim rubbing together. My 04 had a similar noise.

Just purchased the new Impala, every mile that we drive it we like it more. Lots of standard features on this car. The only thing missing is programable seat adjustments. Great ride and comfort and excellent Bose sound system.

  • The SS is Back - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Chevy is on the right track this car deserves the SS tag. This car is such an upgrade I traded in my 2003 LS model to be driving the SS again. The car has great power. The options available with it fully loaded are plenty for most people, and the best part is they have managed to keep it at a low price point compared to other luxury sedans. After comparing to many, the SS stands up to ones that are much higher priced. They body is sleek and the interior as well is classy with great controls and availability. For those who knock the gas mileage (which is not that bad) should not buy a V8. You pay a little for the power and know that going in. This is as happy as Ive been since my old 64 SS.

  • Great car - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

After heavily researching the Honda Accord, Subaru Forester and a variety of SUVs, 0% APR on the 2006 Chevy Impala SS prompted my wife and I to take a test drive. Glad we did. Total miles so far: 1,500. The interior is simply configured, no hard to find controls. Plenty of room in both the front and rear seats, and it has a distinctive exterior look. Then we drove it. Wow. More than enough power to handle any traffic situation, merging or otherwise. We have a family of 4 (kids age 11 and 16). Longest trip so far has been 260 round trip miles.

  • Best V8 Sedan for the money - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Wonderful car. Fast, smooth, quiet. Excellent on long trips. Perfect cruiser. Blends in doesnt stick out. Roomy inside as well as in the trunk.

  • Sleeper sports car - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

This is the second front wheel drive car I have owned. Does not take long getting used too. Surprising how much power this vehicle gets. Handles the road good and has a smooth ride. Just took a trip from Houston to Colorado and had no problems and was very comfortable driving. I only got 24mpg on the highway using 87 octane. I get a steady 19mpg with city driving.

  • Replaced our Cadillac - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

We wanted a good over-the-road vehicle with lots of storage, good ride, good mileage, good audio. (Our 1995 Caddy has 116K miles and wanted a newer car for the mountains and countryside.) Our new LTZ is a great car as our Caddy replacement on all counts! We got 29.4 mpg on our first trip, loaded to the gills. The ride is much improved from our 93 Impala. We looked at Honda and Toyota, as well as Buick, but the Impala was the best price performer out there. The fold down seats will be handy for runs to Lowes. We are happy to see GM make such a fine sedan. Our first Chevy was a 66 and GM seems to be regaining their form with the new Impala. And our import owning friends like it!
