This Year's Model Updates:

GM resurrected the Impala nameplate last year (a staple in Chevy's lineup from 1959 to the early '80s and then briefly from 1994 to '96) and put it on an all-new, full-sized sedan body that rides on the Lumina front-drive platform. Although the Lumina itself is still with us for the 2001 -model-year, Impala will eventually replace it as Chevy's large-car entry to battle the likes of Ford's Crown Victoria, Buick's LeSabre and Chrysler's LH cars.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, big brakes, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • So-so styling, no V8, wallowy suspension, big front-drive cars rarely sell as well as big rear-drivers.

I know many had problems with the 2000 - 2004 - engine cradle, brakes, windshield leak to mention a few. Traded mine in with 109,000 miles, slight hail damage, LOUD Front End Bearing Noise between 40 and 70, along with sensor failures. It just got old. It was a good car until the sensors started wear out. Got low 20 around town and upper 20s on the Interstate for gas mileage. Bladder full before gas gauge screams for attention. Styling was not too dated, always comfortable. Always knew the electric bells and whistles would be the end of the car. Front Air Dam was shot too. Engine temp slowly increased as the the Dam deterioated. Used extended warranty, paid for itself.

  • Best car ever owned - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

We bought it used back in 2009 and its the BEST car we ever owned. I have never ridden in a car that is SO smooth and Comfortable! and when you step on it. the car whooshes down the road. and I sit back enjoying the ride. We havent had any issues with it. We have the LS trim so it looks so much attractive with the sporty look and the wheels and has a much bigger engine. We still have it with almost 200k miles and still runs like new except for the smoky smell after you really step on it after 150k miles. but thats just the grease. could happen to any car anyway

  • Dont Want to Give Up My Impala - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Purchased this car new. Currently has 122,000 miles on it. Classy looking and very comfortable. This vehicle handles and rides like a dream even through I am hard on vehicles. I did have some issues with the electrical system during the first few months, but they were resolved. As others have noted, there is an issue with a knock in the steering & the gas float doesnt work anymore, but I work around it. Getting approx 28 mpg in rural driving situation. Husband is pushing for a new car, but I dont like the style of the new Impalas. Hate to see the "old girl" go. Ill probably go for an all wheel drive crossover this time since I cant find a sedan that gives me what I want.

I have owned this car for 8 years. Its incredibly dependable and a comfortable car. I recommend purchasing an extended 100,000 warranty in case you do have any issues which I have had a few but the ext. warranty helped. Still gets 30 mpg on the highway. Only problem is the gas gauge doesnt work but I can live with that. I do service it yearly whether it needs it or not. A lot of times its all about the maintenance!

  • Great Performance - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Love this car! It Rides smoother than my Grandmothers 2002 Cadillac Deville. Its very roomy and fun to drive. I feel very safe in this car. It also gets better gas mileage than previous 4 cyl car did. My Impala has almost 170,000 miles on it and its still running great. The 3400 V6 engine is like a tank!

  • Best Purchase I ever made - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Never have I had such a great car! Every other auto I have owned Ford, Dodge, Chevy, Toyota.. None have come close to the dependability and quality of my Impala. Ill drive this one til the wheels fall off! Its had its share of incidents. Less than a month old the rear end was crushed (Drunk Driver hit us). It has hit two deer. Yet it keeps on chugging. Power/handling are just as good today as when we drove it off the lot 8yrs ago. Not to mention 151000 miles and still average over 30mpg! Id buy another - but why!

I have owned my Impala 9 months. YOU cant find a better car for the MONEY! You cant find more ROOM in its class. You cant find better GAS milage in its class. You cant beat the PRICE. Luxury, Ride, Power, Handling, Room, Looks, Whats not to like?

  • I like it.... Impala LS 3.8L - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

I drive a lot of miles... Im retiring my Suburban with 327K miles from daily use. So when I went looking for vehicles, SUVs were first on the list. With the current political situation and the potential for rising gas prices, I looked at the Impala. Primarily for fuel mileage, but also because it has a roomy interior. I purchased this car with 37.4K miles on it. Im averaging 28+ mpg, at about a 70/30 highway/city mix. There is no indication of the cars age in performance, appearance, or operation. Its a very comfortable cruiser with ample room for 5 adults. The trunk is huge. I miss my Sub, but not at the gas pump.
