Overview & Reviews
GM has resurrected the Impala nameplate (a staple in Chevy's lineup from 1959 to the early '80s and then briefly from 1994 to '96 ) and put it on an all-new full-size sedan body that rides on the Lumina front-drive platform. Although the Lumina itself is back for the 2000 model year, Impala will eventually replace it as Chevy's large-car entry to battle the likes of Ford's Crown Victoria, Buick's LeSabre and Chrysler's LH cars.
- Six-passenger seating availability, big brakes, torquey V6 engines.
- So-so styling, no V8, big front-drive cars rarely sell as well as big rear-drivers.

Never again - 2000 Chevrolet Impala
By Amalia - October 14 - 12:07 amI have owned it from the start, 9 years now. Ive kept up with maintenance and read the owners manual. Despite this, Ive been having problems over the past 3 years that in the past month have come to a head. The problems include a broken water pump, coolant leaks, radiator problems, temperature gauge braking, the window motor failing, a transmission problem that often makes it hard to pull out at green lights, an engine that doesnt like going over mountains, and the blinker wirings loose. Ive brought it to two places that have been trustworthy for family and they cant figure it out. Far too many problems for 65k - was it made on a mon/fri?! Will not buy Chevy EVER again.

Impala Mechanical Quality - 2000 Chevrolet Impala
By Mark - August 9 - 2:01 amEven though it was maintained to factory specs by the Chevy dealer and not driven hard, it has required a new transmission at 75,000 miles, new radiator fans at 70,000 miles, numerous power window motors and numerous batteries. The interior build quality is poor, especially the plastic trim pieces.

Needs improvement - 2000 Chevrolet Impala
By cheri - July 26 - 2:04 pmI replaced rotors at 60,000 miles, along with the steering couplerer, and new tires. This car is a nice size, and has great speed, but Chevy needs to try to improve their cars more if they want people to continue buying them compared to others.

Piece of Junk - 2000 Chevrolet Impala
By Tim Kennedy - April 27 - 9:24 pmI am really getting tired of problems every time I turn around. Now the power steering pump is whining at only 65,000 miles. Also the drivers window is getting stuck periodically. Just about 2 weeks ago had to put it in the shop again. Would not start at times and the security light would come on. Ended up being the BCM (body control module). An electronic part that controls everything inside of the car electrical. Maybe these things are normal to start happening now. I dont know. I am sure getting tired of something going wrong every time I turn around. Just had the ignition switch replaced at 55,000 miles. Rotors replaced twice.

hate to love it - 2000 Chevrolet Impala
By lbfletch73 - May 25 - 2:00 amI loved the Impala. Fell in love with the new model when it was released in October of 1999. I was so excited when I purchased my used 2000 model. I have not had anything but problems with it since. If the message center doesnt drive you crazy (which it will) the un- ending repairs will. I have talked with other dealership service areas and they have said theyve seen Impalas with consistent problems. I loved my car, right into bankruptcy. Buyer beware.

going back 2 foreign - 2000 Chevrolet Impala
By mr. marbles - April 8 - 2:00 amIve been driving my 2000 Impala for 3 years now and Im less than satisfied. Ive had continuous problems with the Coolant-leaks and sensor related. In cold weather it often barely starts & sounds like its 10 yrs old instead of 3. Interior is cheap looking. It seems there is always a warning light coming on. Paid 7K less for my wifes Civic which ran for 8 years without any problems. GM has lost me. Im going back to Honda with my next car.

lots of problems - 2000 Chevrolet Impala
By basebooboo - April 2 - 2:00 amMy 2000 Chevy Impala LS has had nothing but problems . Engine cradle , stearing shaft bearing, brake rotors, side impact airbag. It all started at around 25000 miles. I have taken this car back to the dealer 9 times and it is still not performing the way it should. When riding on a road that is not quite perfect the front end feels loose and makes a slight popping noise. I thank myself for not buying this car because at the end of this lease I can walk away from a car that otherwise I would be stuck in. I dont have anything good to say about this car....
