This Year's Model Updates:

The HHR is an all-new compact wagon based on the Cobalt platform. Its retro styling is a throwback to the '49 Suburban.

Pros:
  • Smooth and quiet ride, lots of cargo space, attractive interior, excellent visibility, versatile sound system.
Cons:
  • Weak brakes, sloppy handling, engines lack low-end pull and refinement, tight shoulder room, out-of-reach window buttons, some cheap plastics.

  • Junk! - 2006 Chevrolet HHR
    By -

I bought this car recently and its a hunk of junk. I need a new engine already it cracked for some reason. Thats gm for ya. This car is a headache. Dont buy this car. And the sunroof is very noisy and it leaks a lot to if there is a heavy rain. The plastic parts need to be better made to. When I walked out from the store to open my door the handle popped right off. So when I get in my car I have to go to the passengers door just to get in. I regret buying this car. What a waste of money.

  • Great car, annoying problems - 2006 Chevrolet HHR
    By -

We bought this car used and it was in really good condition, It had 22k on it and now has 60k. We have experienced the rotor shudder but took it to a brake shop and had a successful resolution. Luckily we have not had the leak issue, but recently had the gear selector not engage properly to release the key which is now on acc until I can fix the problem. So we love the comfort, gas mileage, sporty handling and great acceleration. Cup holders inadequate for those of you who commute, the window buttons and blind spots took some getting used to but the annoying little problems that cost money that are totally unnecessary if GM could get their quality and design quirks worked out and dealers on board

  • Beach Buggy Worries - 2006 Chevrolet HHR
    By -

I just bought my used 2006 HHR LT2 model with all the bells and whistles and I love to drive it. It handles nice and I feel comfortable in it. Gas goes a long way on a tank for at least a week. I got it as my beach buggy, the SUV room and style with nice car features really impressed me. I see a future that I am unsure about after reading some of these reviews though? I agree cup holders are too low, and there are blind spots that I got use to or get the cheap blind spot mirrors. Trying to get use to window control location also, these are basic complaints though, I would of loved a big console with them on that like in a Jeep Liberty or something so easier to reach, but all and all love it.

  • Quality & Moon Roof Problems - 2006 Chevrolet HHR
    By -

The moon roof made noise from the start. The dealer put foam in it twice. Turns out after the warranty was up that the actuator is failing. It cannot be tightened & is a $1,000.00 repair that GM will not back up. The glass can be seen bouncing. The car hydroplanes in light rain, slush and snow because of the wide low profile tires. Expect to pay a fortune to replace the low profile tires. Window controls are poorly located. Rear passenger seating is small. Wipers stop working sometimes. Takes a technician to replace the air cleaner. Gas mileage is very good. Disappointed that GM will not back up Mfg defects. Do not leave the dealership without documented repair paperwork.

  • Super Ride - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

This vehicle is such a blast to own and drive, I am the second owner, 39,000 miles, 33 miles to gallon on highway, great sound system, great visibility,I get peoples attention where-ever I go, 24 miles per gallon city, hauling capacity is unbelievable, I had a custom trailer hitch added to pull a small trailer.I added the "Chevrolet" word on the front nose and on each side of the hood, the color is light gold with saddle trim, I also added power air filter system

  • Herbys Hot Rod - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

I dont know another car that could have reacted as quick as my HHR did when another car slammed on brakes in front of me. Another driver said," I dont know how you missed that guy."

  • Smooth Going - 2006 Chevrolet HHR
    By -

Ive run 70,000+ miles and finally needed my first repair - replacing the cheap front brakes. With rarely required routine maintenance (including oil changes every 10K or so with Mobil 1), and 27-30 MPG, you couldnt ask for a more reliable lower cost to maintain car. I got all the options except a sunroof (too tall) that makes it a pleasure to drive. Added antiroll bars that really tightened up highway handling.

  • HHR - Great vehicle - Fun to Drive - 2006 Chevrolet HHR
    By -

Very enjoyable to drive. Handles exceptionally well. Gets lots of looks and comments. People will pull up and talk with you and ask how you like the vehicle. Some have asked for a ride because they are unable to see the vehicle at the dealership due to availablity. Its just a lot of fun to drive.

  • White Baby Lex - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

I was hesitant to get the new HHR, after driving a Kia Sorento for 2 years while sitting higher with better view. The 4 cylinder did worry me a little. No worries anymore as the HHR has great pick up and is really peppy, very cool and fun to drive, the White 2 LT model has OnStar,XM radio, sunroof, cashmere leather, high polished wheels, heated seats, rear spoiler and great sounding pioneer system with 6 disc CD. I love this car after our first trip got 27 MPG while using AC and driving 75 MPH (still less than 500 miles so its not broken in yet). You cant go wrong with this car and the features you get. I highly recommend the Chevy HHR

What a wonderful, fun vehicle to drive. Love the retro look, the stereo is great, rides good, and gets great fuel mileage. Overall, Chevy has hit a home run with this vehicle.
