This Year's Model Updates:

The Equinox is an all-new compact SUV from Chevrolet. It shares a platform with the Saturn Vue and offers similar levels of space and versatility for buyers seeking practical suburban transportation.

Pros:
  • Standard V6 engine, long wheelbase affords plenty of interior room, fore/aft-adjustable rear seats, available side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Costs as much as the more powerful Saturn Vue, limited drivetrain choices, confusing stereo controls.

I purchased this vehicle as a work vehicle and have been surprise by the performance and mileage. Miles from town and in the dead of Kansas winter, I have busted through 2 snowdrifts. Then in the spring with the snow melting, I have slip-slided a full mile on a minimum maintenance road at 3 to 5 MPH. I dont recommend this as several times I thought I was going to end my adventure in the ditch. I only wish Chevy had spent more money on the paint used on the dashboard and where did they get the material they used on the seat covers? Spill water on them and they stain! All in all for a used vehicle with 36k on it and $16k Im really satisfied. It now has (8 months later) 57k on it.

  • No problems so far - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

We hesitated buying a first-year NOX, but we have had zero problems. Just regular maintenance. Not thrilled with gas mileage, but is average for SUV of that size, so cant complain too much. I have the LT, all-wheel-drive. It does well in snow. My wife loves the color (laser blue metallic). Lots of folks say it look like some model of Lexus. Interior is nice - love the sliding back seat. Leather looks great but is thin. We are careful with it. Worst complaint is turning radius is atrocious, and the paint looks great but is also very thin, scratches very easily. Overall, very satisfied.

I love my Equinox so far. Except for the gas mileage. Its far from the rated 25 mpg. Although it only has 600 miles on it, I am only getting 17 - 18 mgp after 3 tanks. I drive highway 93% of the time usually between 70 - 75 mph.

  • Last Chevy Id Buy! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I fell in love with the appearance of the Equinox, and still find it to be a good looking car both inside and out. Unfortunately since I have bought the vehicle it has been one headache after another. I had consistent problems with a broken gas guage that Chevy finally fixed. The icing on the cake though is the never ending problems I have with the cooling system of the vehicle. My Equinox constantly overheats, a problem Chevy knows about, and has repeatedly tried to fix the issue. Now that my warranty is up, and the issue is still taking place, I am fighting with Chevy because I refuse to pay for repairs on an issue that has taken place since the car was 1 1/2 years old (its 3 1/2 now).

For the money I believe I made the best possible choice. For 52,000 miles it has run well performed well and carted a lot of personal belongings. It looks good is roomy and mileage is good for a vehicle this size.

  • Good, but needs improvements - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Bought an 05 Equinox, used at CarMax. Had about 26,000 miles, I put about 15K a year. Now approaching 60K. The Equinox is an average SUV, nothing remarkable about it. It goes about its business well. I replaced the front brakes (rotors and pads) at about 35K, the cheap rotors they came with were warped. I bought Bendex rotors, great rotors! Also, the usual starting problem, the engine will not fully turn over, without pressing the gas (appears to happen to many people, according to here). Also, high beam light flickers on and off when you use turn signals. Overall an okay SUV, but cheap interior.

I think this new model is stylish and handles really good. Not a bad price.

  • So far so good - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I have read the other reviews, and find I share some experiences. The interior paint chips easily, but a dealership employee suggested I use a sharpie to fill in the gaps (thanks). The front tires wore out quickly, but it is a front wheel drive vehicle. The gas mileage is between 20 and 25, no complaints there. I do agree that the windshield is a bad deisgn in snowy conditions. All in all I like the Equinox. The resale value doesnt look that good, so I will be driving this car into the ground. My biggest complaint is that I found out that the motor was made in China. I have always bought American, and I bought the Equinox thinking I was doing just that. I may have bought my last US car

  • First Test Drive - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Took one out for a test drive today. Handling and performance is good. Nice quiet ride and has adequate power for on ramp merges, passing and climbing hills, at least without a load. Im just over 6 tall and found it had plenty of room for the driver and passengers. Hard seats, did I say hard seats, and poor support. No extensions on sun visors. Narrow rear cargo space. Floor not level with seats down.

  • A little iffy - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Have had the Equinox for 6 mths. I am very satisfied with the comfort and room in the interior. The only problem, the seats stain really bad when rain gets on them. The exterior is beautiful. Other than the bumpers fading, its great. As far as the vehicle itself, I am very unsatisfied. Been in the shop several times and never found a problem. Have problems starting it sometimes, check engine light comes on almost everyday. I went from a 2000 Protege to this, a brand new car, and would much rather have my old car back, never had any problems.
