This Year's Model Updates:

The Equinox is an all-new compact SUV from Chevrolet. It shares a platform with the Saturn Vue and offers similar levels of space and versatility for buyers seeking practical suburban transportation.

Pros:
  • Standard V6 engine, long wheelbase affords plenty of interior room, fore/aft-adjustable rear seats, available side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Costs as much as the more powerful Saturn Vue, limited drivetrain choices, confusing stereo controls.

An all around good car. I get horrible gas mileage and I try to drive as conservatively as possible with this car but I still only average 250 to 260 miles to a tank of gas and I have 8,200 miles on it already. There is a wierd clunking feel and noise when I apply my brakes at low speeds. Great sound system though; it is a major step up from my first car. The size is good although it looks like and sometimes feels like you need car seats in the back instead of guitars and equipment like me (it looks like a minivan).

The car itself is sporty and the funtionability of the seating and space is great. The quality of material is not good, seat fabric stains when it rains, steering wheel material is ruff, radio back plate or whatever you want to call it is all warn off making the car look very very used. My car broke down since the first 500 miles I pick it up, and still is broken ever since then. Get stuck a lot. One more payment. Cant wait to give it back!

  • Tiny space - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

When we purchased the vehicle we only had one child and with baby #2,there is very little truck space even with the seat at my husbands back. We were very unhappy with the durability of the interior (water left a mark) after the stain treatment. I was told when took it back to shop "what do you think would happen with kids? We are already trading it in.

  • Looks good, if you could only push it - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I have had my Chevy for two years now and it has a whopping 23K on it. Apparently, this is the same as 200K for other cars based upon my problems with this loser vehicle! I am currently looking to get-rid of it soon before the warranty runs out. I told the dealership today, as my car was being repaired for the sixth time, that I could not afford to do all the work it need monthly. So, I am currently looking to unload it before I have to start paying big money out my pocket. Two weeks after I bought “it” the starter went out. I took a picture as it was being towed back to the dealer. Then a stylish feature is the check engine light - it stays on all the time, which will no doubt become an

  • Disappointed in gas mileage and interior - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Gas mileage is not what is advertised. Interior is cheap and disappointing. Experior design great. Turning radius needs to be improved. LT version should have tined windows in the front. If Chevy would have addresed these issues and not have been CHEAP this would be a dream vehicle.

I love how my Equinox drives, but this car has been in the shop more than it has been on the road. Ive had the brakes worked on 3 times, master cylinder replaced, the whole gearshift assembly replaced, the radio replaced, and the rotors turned twice. It also has a backfiring problem that has been in effect since 9000 miles, but no service person can duplicate the problem when they have it in the shop. I dont think I will ever purchase another Chevorlet. I just wonder if any other Equinox owners have had the problems that Ive had.

  • Cinder Block Seats - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Took this on a family trip - we have taken this trip over 75 times in the last 24 years - all but three times was this trip taken in gm cars. THIS was the worst trip as far as comfort was concerned. The seats are like foam covered cinder blocks! I am calling the dealer in the morning to do a trade for an Astro Van.

  • GM shouldnt sacrifice quality for price - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Wished I test drove it a lot longer. Well the exterior is nice. Interior is a big issue. Front is very cramped. Dash illumination is poor. Power lock/window and other buttons dont light. Cant use emergency brake when cup holder extended. Bottom cup holder is too low to keep your coffee in. Temp knob very hard to turn. Going over bumps are ok but other times feel like the wheels are falling off. Starting the engine cold idles at 1300 rpm for about 4 minutes. Rear hatch no longer goes up on its own. Blind spots are scary when backing up. Small fuel tank for an SUV.

  • Roomy but a gas guzzle - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Ive had my Equinox for just over a year now. Its great for road trips in that its comfortable and holds a ton. BUT, I get horrible gas mileage. I am also starting to have clanking engine sounds and Ive always had odd grinding sounds when Im sitting at a light on the brake. Mileage, the best city I get is around 16 (no a/c and not foot heavy). Hwy the best has been 21. For basic city driving, Im filling up on empty having driven at most 230 miles. Not what I was expecting. All in all, a good family car if you need an SUV. Good horsepower, comfy ride, nice features, horrible cup holder placement. I like it better than others in its class, but Im going back to a sedan.

  • Hunk of Junk - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I have had this vehicle for 2.5 yrs now, and Ive had to have brand new rotors and break pads; along with brand new tires, visor, and stereo. I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone. There is also a problem where the starter cranks after the key is released, and Chevrolet, in their service bulletin (#03-06-03-001D) states this is "normal." There are a ton of blind spots with this vehicle also. You couldnt pay me enough money to ever get a Chevrolet again.
