This Year's Model Updates:

The Equinox is an all-new compact SUV from Chevrolet. It shares a platform with the Saturn Vue and offers similar levels of space and versatility for buyers seeking practical suburban transportation.

Pros:
  • Standard V6 engine, long wheelbase affords plenty of interior room, fore/aft-adjustable rear seats, available side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Costs as much as the more powerful Saturn Vue, limited drivetrain choices, confusing stereo controls.

I love my Equinox. I get so many compliments on my truck. Its not a huge SUV. It seems to be just the right size. With the rear folding AND sliding seats, picking up a large item is not a problem. And with the front folding passenger seat, long pieces of lumber or the like, is a piece of cake! Avaible On-Star & XM Radio is awesome. I use my personal calling feature all the time.

I looked at a lot of small to mid-size SUVs, and kept coming back to the Equinox. The ride is smooth compared to other SUVs, and I feel like I am in a sedan. Car handles great. There are a few things that Im not too pleased with, including the backseat headrests that are too tall, but I love driving this car and, for the price, the purchase was definitely worth it.

  • Equinox - So Far So Good - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

My wife and I have enjoyed the Equinox very much. Great room for the kids in the back, and all the stuff we carry around. For the price, we find the Equinox a very good vehicle. Only problem we have had is a "clunk clunk clunk" from the back occasionally after startup.

  • GM shouldnt sacrifice quality for price - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Wished I test drove it a lot longer. Well the exterior is nice. Interior is a big issue. Front is very cramped. Dash illumination is poor. Power lock/window and other buttons dont light. Cant use emergency brake when cup holder extended. Bottom cup holder is too low to keep your coffee in. Temp knob very hard to turn. Going over bumps are ok but other times feel like the wheels are falling off. Starting the engine cold idles at 1300 rpm for about 4 minutes. Rear hatch no longer goes up on its own. Blind spots are scary when backing up. Small fuel tank for an SUV.

I bought my Equinox last month and have put about 1000 miles on it. Overall it has been an excellant vehicle and fits into my familys life style. Our son is a hockey player and his goalie equipment fits perfect. From style to performance the Equinox would be a SUV I would recommend. The gas mileage could be a little better. I did put in a high flow air filter and have increased my gas mileage by 3 miles to a gallon plus acceleration and performance. If you are looking for an SUV that is priced right and has the features of the bigger SUVs, Equinox is for you.

  • Gas mileage and off road capability - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Strangely enough I dont hear at all about off road capability in consumer reviews, especially when it comes to the Chevrolet Equinox. Why? Because the Equinox has no off road capability whatsoever. I felt safer in the snow in my Honda Accord. This vehicle is heavy and the all wheel drive system is not efficient. I used to drive a Subaru, and this thing his not even close. I drive all wheel drive vehicles because Im among the few who actually need it, and with the Equinox I wasted my money on a system that has no advantages over a FWD system. Gas mileage is also very disapointing. My friend has a Cherokee and burn less gas than me.

The car has problems with water leaks. Had problems with brakes. Needed new windshield. Gas mileage poor. Comfort leaves much to be desired. Very disatisfied with the car and also GM. If they ever get the leak fixed and it drys out I can get rid of it. That will be the happiest day with my Equinox.

  • Roomy but a gas guzzle - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Ive had my Equinox for just over a year now. Its great for road trips in that its comfortable and holds a ton. BUT, I get horrible gas mileage. I am also starting to have clanking engine sounds and Ive always had odd grinding sounds when Im sitting at a light on the brake. Mileage, the best city I get is around 16 (no a/c and not foot heavy). Hwy the best has been 21. For basic city driving, Im filling up on empty having driven at most 230 miles. Not what I was expecting. All in all, a good family car if you need an SUV. Good horsepower, comfy ride, nice features, horrible cup holder placement. I like it better than others in its class, but Im going back to a sedan.

If you like a car that you are continually gassing up, handles poorly, gets struck in 3" of snow, and has to go into the shop to change the headlight bulbs, this is the car for you!

  • Chevy hit a homerun - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

This vehicle is great. I had been waiting for it to come out for a while. Once it did, I was able to find the perfect one with the options I wanted (tan leather, sunroof, black). It has good fuel economy, solid performance, and looks great. Ive received a lot of compliments already from my friends. It has enough room in the back for my dog and handles like a car. Overall the perfect midsize crossover.
