This Year's Model Updates:

The Equinox is an all-new compact SUV from Chevrolet. It shares a platform with the Saturn Vue and offers similar levels of space and versatility for buyers seeking practical suburban transportation.

Pros:
  • Standard V6 engine, long wheelbase affords plenty of interior room, fore/aft-adjustable rear seats, available side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Costs as much as the more powerful Saturn Vue, limited drivetrain choices, confusing stereo controls.

Im very pleased with its performance. It has excellent maneuverability with quick response pickup. The electronic steering is a big plus, and a great experience for someone using it for the first time. Nice, modern, sleek body style was the first eye catcher, but the demo drive was the clincher. Went with the front wheel drive only in an effort to save on gas. Gas mileage is disappointing. Averaging about 16 to 18 mpg combined highway and city driving. Overall the car is an excellent buy for the money, with many extras standard.

I loved my car from the moment I bought it but shortly after the problems started. It would start about 50% of the time and I had it in the shop several times before it was discovered that the fuel pump system had faulty parts. Recently the wiring system has become faulty and is blowing fuses to the point that my car literally dies! The trade in value is horrible and the gas mileage is nothing to brag about.

I drive about 80 miles a day plus trips and really had no probs until now. Driveshaft bearing went out and supposedly damaged the CV joint. Still in the shop because apparently this is common. Was great thru Cleveland winter, even got me up the drive in 6" of snow with new Yoko tires. Still too many recurring and issues from the posts Ive read. Maybe Ill trade in & get a Buick. Ill not by foreign.

  • Good so far - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

2000 miles (300 in snow) in the first 3 weeks. AWD is great, transition from FWD is seamless. Engine/performance is surprisingly adequate, but buzzy. Transmission shifts agreesively to maintain speed, no trouble holding 75. Handling good for an SUV. Strut towers limit rear luggage space, golf clubs wont fit except on diagonal. Plenty of rear leg room with sliding rear seat. Firm seats were comfortable on 12 hr plus trip. LS is bit spartan, cruise control not standard? Come on! Gas mileage is suspect, too early to tell, guess about 22/16. Was hestitant to buy American (OK an American company), but price was the closer. Happy to date, we will see how reliability shapes up

I have had my Equinox for a month. I have always bought Chevys, but am slightly dissapointed in this one. The ride is good, albeit a little too much wind noise on the drivers side. The front seats dont seem "full" size, and the gas mileage is not up to par (18mpg local/20 hwy, AC off!).

  • Good Truck - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I bought the Equinox over 1 year ago and have over 26K miles. Here are my thoughts: a) The gas mileage is a disappointment. I get about 18-20 driving about 90% highway miles. b) It drives more like a truck (feels heavy) but rides like a car. c) It is VERY roomy. d) The interior quality inferior to Honda/Toyota, but better than prior Chevy models. e) Ive been in the shop A LOT (tailgate recall, CD Changer, Front Strut Assy, rear differential, antennae holder 2x) but I also had an accident with my nox in late 2004 which might have cause other problems. I also got one of the first models.

  • Safety is Number ONE!!! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

My daughter loved driving this vehicle. It drives very smooth, like a car, but she is up higher and can see better. Recently, a car sideswiped her on the freeway, causing her to lose control. She hit a cement guardrail almost head on doing 55mph in her Equinox. She 360d across the freeway and ended up against the opposite guardrail and yet SHE WALKED AWAY with just some soreness and a small seatbelt mark!!! The vehicle was totalled because it did what it was designed to do - take the impact and protect the passengers. And OnStar called her just like in the commercials. We are definitely getting her another Equinox to replace it. Her safety is number one!

I see some people had bad experiences here, you cant make everyone happy. This is an amazing car for the price and mine has over 129K miles on it! I have had autos from domestic and foriegn makes and our Equinox is incredible. The GREATS: ON STAR!!! Handling, int. space, handling in snow, exterior looks, exhaust sounds sporty. The GOODS: fuel MPG, pick up, rear seat comfort, easy to work on. Nice sound features The BAD: Front leather seats not comfortable on trips, road noise, int. plastic losing coating. OVERALL: the car is $25K with leather and all wheel drive!!! What do you expect?? We have had no problems, and this one we love!! ps.Our Honda needed a new motor and Nissan 2 trannys so...

  • Really good family car for the price! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Weve had the car for about a 1.5 years now. It has not been taken to the shop even once in all that time. The price was excellent for the quality. The layout and design of the trunk and backseats are really quite good. The seats in the front are very comfortable, but the ones in the back are just a little uncomfortable.

  • Love at first sight....But - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

After having the Equinox in my possession now for a couple of weeks I can say I love it in many ways but not without a few issues.....The backseat is very hard and uncompfortable and the headrests restrict your view (too High)..The stereo is hard to figure out but Im getting it. Lastly Im a little concerned about he transmission, (going down inclines it holds you back ) and just seems different from any other vehicle Ive ever driven...I guess time will tell on this issue
