This Year's Model Updates:

The Equinox is an all-new compact SUV from Chevrolet. It shares a platform with the Saturn Vue and offers similar levels of space and versatility for buyers seeking practical suburban transportation.

Pros:
  • Standard V6 engine, long wheelbase affords plenty of interior room, fore/aft-adjustable rear seats, available side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Costs as much as the more powerful Saturn Vue, limited drivetrain choices, confusing stereo controls.

At 30,000 miles a rear wheel bearing had to be replaced. The front brake rotors showed serious warping at 30,000 miles. The standard tires were substandard. The vehicle overall has bad gas mileage. It is a very handy vehicle for shopping, hauling. I have always been a GM man even when they rusted out in 3 years. Thank God the Japanese introduced their line. Even though I accumulate GM dollars, I will go foreign the next time around.

  • Never again GM! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I was so looking forward to buying this vehicle. Then I did. I had to tell the salesman the specs on the Equinox. GMs SmartBuy program is a joke. You have to pay them to take the vehicle back if you decide you dont want it! The tires went bald at 15k miles. Then it took 3 months to find tires! The service engine soon light comes on every 4-5 starts and Chevy says just to ignore it, rather than figure out what causes it. They want $13k after 4 years for the vehicle when it goes straight to auction for $5k. Gas mileage is not what they advertised! I get 11-16 mpg. Its supposed to get 19-25. Ill never buy another GM since I can get a much better vehicle for less than what I paid on this one

34,400 miles after 3 1/2 years and the the air conditioner dies. Find out the compressor is "coming apart internally." Needed a new one at over $900. Car wouldnt start. Found out the circuitry in the fuse box assembly was faulty that needed to be replaced for over $700. Factory parts falling apart because theyre GM junk. No wonder they only offered 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty. Not to mention that the front windshield collects snow so badly you need to clear it out mid-trip because the wipers just funnel it together. Turning radius is hideous as well. Basically a worthless GM vehicle.

  • Counting the days till I return! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

This was the first GM car I have ever bought and it will be the last. I had to replace the struts and strut mounts as well as the front axle at 14,000 miles. The front brakes and rotors at 35,000 and the rear brakes have been deglazed 3 times the first was at 10,000 miles. The car is so loud, you hear ever bump in the road. The car handles horribly and does not feel safe. The only thing I am happy about is that I did not purchase the vehicle instead I used the smart buy program and I will be returning it early in December. The worst part is GM knows the issues with the safety of the car an ignores them.

  • Not fun. - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

The look of the Equinox is great, that is where it stops. Backing up is down right scary there are so many blind spots, the turning radius is terrible, the suspension feels like the car has 70,000 miles on it since new (really clunky over bumps), and the gas mileage is a lie... We are selling it with 10,000mi. and buying an Audi Allroad. GM vehicles are just not good..

The fuel milege is horrible, nowhere near what is advertised. Rear seats should fold flat so they are usable for storage. Itts slightly underpowered, but not bad. Drives and handles fairly well. Rear vision is horrible. Hood noise on the highway with windy conditions. Its a nice looking vehicle. Plug in location is bad, and the cup holders are cheap and in the way of the parking brake. Steering wheel tilt is useless. Driver seat adjustment is ridiculous.

Where do I even start. This vehicle has been nothing but a problem ever since I bought it. I just put $2400 dollars into it and last year it was $1000. It is only 3 years old with just over 100 thousand kilometers and I have relapced the front stablizer linkage arms twice, head gasket, brakes 4 times, both front bearings and struts, and hanger bearing. The front still sounds like it is ready to fall apart. Sometimes it doesnt want to start.I really want to get rid of it but I still have 2 years left owing on it and if I trade it I wont get anything for it but if I keep how much more am I going to have to put in to it.

  • Whatever - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I bought this new and have 55000 miles on it so far. Tires wear out faster on the front than the rear. It bucks the crosswinds a lot. It has a lot of front end noises and rattles going over rough pavement. Dealer says sway bar links could be the problem, Ill try replacing those, but I think its in the steering (knuckle)? Cant do better than 23 miles per gallon on hwy. Small gas tank. Knock on Wood.

  • Misleading - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I purchased this vehicle because I needed a car with good gas mileage. I am a teacher and was going back to school for my masters. I went to the dealership where I had bought my other two Chevrolets. They showed me the Equinox, I drove it, and bought it. I did so because the information on the side window said it had a 16.7 gallon gas tank and it got 19 miles in the city and 25 on the highway. After having it 2 weeks I called them and said I didnt think something was right with the gas. They told me to wait and it would get better. It has not! When I talked to them after Christmas they said there was nothing that could be done. They said the stickers can sometimes be misleading!

  • Equinox not what it seems - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

At first we thought we had a winner, but after driving it for a while we found it not what it was cracked up to be. My son plays hockey. Hes a goalie and there is not room for his equipment. The seats on trips, long and short, feel like benches at a hockey game. The controls are confusing. When we recieved the car, parts of the car in the interior were loose. There were stains all in the car, probably the dealerss fault. We wish we had purchased another vehicle!!
