This Year's Model Updates:

Two fresh colors are available, but the available convertible model is the big news. Equipped with a manual-folding top, a hard tonneau that extends along the rear wall of the passenger compartment and a trunk that holds golf bags. Lower-powered airbags are not available on the Corvette.

Pros:
  • World class performance. Amazing cargo capacity. Easy to drive.
Cons:
  • Interior materials are not world class.

I just bought a 98 Vette. It is a great looking car and is very, very fun to drive. The performance is awesome. A couple of negatives are the drivers seat doesnt quite lock in place all the time, the passenger window doesnt seal really well and lets in air noise around 90mph. Also, the check engine light has come on after I drove it hard. I plan to fix up these minor issues, because I love the car and the looks and performance make up for any other flaws.

Great handling, great power, fun to drive in the canyons, great gas mileage for a car with this much power.......whats not to like? Most all c5 owners have had "column lock failure " and had to call a tow truck at least once to get it to the dealership and usually a hefty repair bill. The solution may be as simple as a bad or slightly discharged battery, check it first. And, a permanent repair harness is available in the aftermarket for about $50. Get the harness before it happens, leaving you stranded. Only takes a few minutes to install.

I have enjoyed driving this car. I have driven other sports cars and this by far exceeds the exhiliration I have ever felt before. Thank you Chevrolet.

  • Only a Vette - 1998 Chevrolet Corvette

98 Vette Ragtop with the six speed. Unbeatable performance-to-dollar ratio. Bought it with 17k miles on it the Delco 12 CD-changer never has worked, the steering column lock failed first at 18,000 miles and then again six months later. Both times got no help from GM (dealer and corporate), $500 per repair out of my pocket. Finally found a company out of Texas that sold an aftermarket bypass and had the local Vette shop install it. Problem solved. The performance and status outweigh the GM quirks. After my experience with GM customer service I would NEVER again purchase a GM product...except, of course, another Vette. Go for the extended warranty next time, Ill need it!

I pursched this car as a runabout. I grew up with Porsche and have had numberous in the stable and currently have 2 911s. I enjoy the car. It is relatively reliable with no significant events to date except that the battery came apart from the past and leaked down in the engine bay. Upon opening the trunk in the rain, it all pours inside the storage bay. This suspension is alittle soft, so I have to adjust the ride to performance mode to stop from being thrown into the roof. The performance is adequate, the zo6 is probably the better option.

THE 98 VETTE CONV IS WITHOUT A DOUGHT THE BEST EVER THE CAR IS DAMN NEAR PERFECT AS A TOYOTA EMPLOYEE I CAN SPEAK OF SUCH THINGS AS WE ALL WELL KNOW IF GM FORD OR THAT OTHER WANA-BE CAR BUILDER EVER MAKE A CAR WITH QUALITY INT. • 1998 Vette-beautiful but not perfect - 1998 Chevrolet Corvette
    By -

Beautiful car and fun to drive even with the automatic. Only drawbacks were the cheap plastic interior, especially the door panels, and some nagging quality issues--plastic parts breaking off in the interior, needed to replace entire exhaust system, stuck ignition intercept lock that required a tow to the dealer. Also continued leaks from tires.
