This Year's Model Updates:

Now entering its sixth year of production, the Chevrolet Colorado gets a few notable upgrades for 2009. Most significant is the debut of a V8 engine option. Other changes this year include a new on-road-biased ZQ8 sport suspension package, larger wheels and tires for the off-road-oriented Z71 suspension package and a revised antilock braking system that's said to decrease stopping distances. Finally, last year's Sport Appearance Package is now standard on all base Colorados.

Pros:
  • Affordable, composed handling on- and off-road, varied engine choices.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity without V8 option, subpar fit and finish inside.

  • Whats Not To Like? - 2009 Chevrolet Colorado

Sometimes the professional reviewers from Edmunds, Consumer Reports, etc are just too picky because my Colorado Z-71 has been a great truck! It has 24,XXX miles now. I have had ZERO problems with it! It gets about 24.5 mpg on highway and a combined 23 mpg recently with in town and highway driving. This little truck has been very reliable and the build quality that Edmunds pans is not seen on my truck. It is still rattle & squeek free and overall impression is that of a real solid truck. The only complaint, although it is not the trucks fault, is that the OEM M+S tires are noisier than I like. I will replace them for quieter ones when these wear out but they are wearing like iron!

  • 09 Colorado with 5.3 V8 - 2009 Chevrolet Colorado

I have to disagree with the Edmunds reviewer on my vehicle. With the 5.3 liter V8, this truck is more like a sports car with lots of power. The ride is better than I expected from a truck and the interior, although not fancy, is nice. I passed up on a much more expensive "quality" truck with fewer features and less power due to GM incentives and great pricing. Im very happy with my decision.

  • Love my Colorado - 2009 Chevrolet Colorado

Ive only had my colorado for a month or so, but I love it. No problems at all. Very comfortable, great gas mileage. Cant wait to see how it does in the snow.

  • Great so far - 2009 Chevrolet Colorado

So far I love this truck even more than the 2000 S-10 extended cab it replaced. Ive had many compliments on the color and exterior. I have gone from filling up 7 times a month to 3 on average(though some of that is due to a larger fuel tank). The ride is smooth and the seats are comfortable. The engine seems powerful enough, though I miss the V-6 sound from my S-10. The only real complaints I have are the stereo since they are behind the times and dont have a usb or audio input for an MP3 player. It also seems it could use more interior storage besides the glove box and the arm rest.

  • A Long Overdue Change - 2009 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

I just purchased the Colorado a few weeks ago after driving a 1995 Nissan XE pickup for 14 years. I was reluctant to give up the Nissan because it had been a very reliable and solid vehicle but I was able to give it a good home with a family member. I am enjoying the ride, styling, comfort of my new Colorado. I like the fact that it appears to be a scaled down version of the Silverado. I have the 4 cylinder engine with the automatic transmission and it has good power and adequate acceleration. The gas mileage is pretty much what I obtained with the Nissan about 22 mpg. Overall I like the vehicle and have received numerous compliments about it.

  • New Colorado Owner - 2009 Chevrolet Colorado

I was in the market for a truck that offers the following options: fuel efficiency, room for four tall adults/teenagers, and light duty hauling for the occasional new appliance or household item. No towing requirements. It came down to a choice between the Tacoma and Colorado. As long time Toyota 4- Runner owner (216,000 miles), I became a first time Chevy owner based on the extra leg room in the back, a few additional stock features, and overall price savings of about $2k. I usually keep my vehicles for 10-15 years. The 4-cylinder obviously doesnt have the power of a V8, but is peppy enough for my use. Time will tell if my choice was right, but so far Im very pleased.

  • Great Truck - 2WD, 4 cyl, crew cab - 2009 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

I test drove this truck with hesitation after reading the editors review. I tested the Colorado vs the Tacoma. The Chevy won in all categories, in my opinion, except interior design. Contrary to the editor review, this truck is quiet, comfortable and has plenty of power to get you moving and do light truck duty. The truck is not at all bouncy and rides like a car. Chevy added some nice touches to the package I bought like chrome door handles and really sharp looking chrome wheels. A similar Tacoma would cost much more. It braked much better than the Tacomas squishy brake petal and had more power. I never realized how much fun to drive a small 4 cyl truck could be, but it is.

  • One powerful little truck - 2009 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

I have a 2009 Chevy Colorado crew cab 4WD Z71 with the 5.3 liter engine & it is black in color. This little truck has more power than anyone will ever need. I also own a 1966 Chevy Chevelle with a 427 big block in it & I really do know what real horsepower is & this little truck has it. This little truck also has a full frame which gives it a strong foundation. The inside of this truck has plenty of leg room also. The interior is also real nice with the chrome touches.General Motors did one great job on this little truck. It has it all. Also when it comes to parking this little truck it is just really ease. I tip my hat to the people of General Motors for this great little truck.
