I owned the truck since May of 07, it has 9000 miles on it and its been in the shop 3 times all fuel related. Had to run premium in it so it wouldnt spark knock under load. I also had valve clatter on cold start up lasted 10 sec. The first time I took the truck in when the engine light came on they said I wasnt running the right fuel. It seems the truck has to run on top tier fuel from kwicktrip so I started running top tier in the engine. Had trouble again took it back to the dealer they said the have to replace the cylinder head because the valves were bad. The idle also sticks around 2800 rpm once and a while. Im getting rid of the truck in 2008 wouldnt buy one again.

It drives great, handles good, no major problems to date. Driver’s side strut was replaced at 17k miles. Loaded with dirt bike and gear, best mileage was 23 mpg. Usual mileage is 21-22 mpg, combined. It is smaller, lower to the ground, less equipped than my old Silverado (which I continue to miss). If you can live with a 4 cyl, this is a good little truck. It would be a great truck for a young person, who has yet to experience the grandeur of a loaded full size Silverado V8.

  • Wish for Better Mileage - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

I wanted a truck that can be used for hauling stuff for the farm, but I did not want a large truck, and the Colorado has great power with the 5cyl. The gas mileage around town is about 20, havent taken any long rides to see what hwy is. Have not had any problems in winter driving, but I have to say that I really dont care for the clunk you get shifting into 4wd at times.

I drove an 96 s10 for 10 years almost 300,000 miles it was a better truck. The Colorado is a litle bigger. Less gas mileage. No way it gets 27-35 highway. There is no armrest What engineer builds a 5 speed truck with no armrest? 2 Cheap General tires went at 15000 miles? I got the truck at 13500 +ttl. Its efficient but I dont know as much as my S10. The body panels are made really thin and theres not much cab space. It is a slow slug. It only moves when the pedal is to the floor hence the gas mileage

  • Great Truck - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Very satisfied. Have had the truck for 34,000 mi. with little to no problems. Solid feel while maintaining decent comfort. Gas mileage is a little weak at 19 combined, but the overall driving experience is excellent. Good acceleration and braking, and overall fun to drive. A little jumpy on rough roads, but thats not uncommon with 4 wheel drives. Wish the bed was longer.

For my use this truck has worked out great. Have all the bells on a Z71. Have 10k on it with no probs. Went from my 96 GMC S-15 with 200k on it. Im getting 21+ mpg on a mix of hiway/city. Not too bad compared to other makes (and it uses regular not prem. like some of the imports). The Z71 is a little tight and jiggly but it is an off road model, probably should have gone with the z85 suspension. Seats are not too short (i.e., good leg support) and with the leather option you can set it up for max comfort. Plenty of front leg room (Im 61). Good sound system.

  • Great Mid Size Truck - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

I have owned this truck for almost 2 years an it is the best truck I have owned an I have owned several. The 5 cylinder engine gives you the right amount of power for the size of the truck. The MPG for a 4x4 truck is great I get 18 city an 27 highway you can not ask for any better. I use this truck for hunting an I have had it in some tight places an it has performed great. If you use the truck properly an not abuse it you will have no trouble I have 34000 mile an not trouble.

Soon after I submitted my first review on this forum my Colorado developed a cylinder head/valve train issue. Its going back to the dealer for a cylinder head/valve replacement next week. Apparently this has developed into a common problem for the I4 and I5 motors. The notion of having my engine torn apart this early on hasnt done much for my owner experience and to make things worse GM wont extend my drive warranty. For GM to continue to have these kinds of quality problems is very frustrating to me. Id prefer to support the American manufacturers but Im not sure I can afford to nor even want to anymore.

  • Good Truck for the Money - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

I really enjoy this truck. I wanted a small to midsize dependable truck. This was it. The other were too expensive and/or did not give the value for the money spent. Would be nice if it got better mileage, but I am not going to complain compared to others. I get about 17 in the city - 23 highway -which is pretty good. Excellent handling, good pickup. Drives smooth.

  • My experience so far has been good - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

I drive my trucks until they die and in 25 years owned a Toyota a Nissan and now this 06 Chevy Colorado. All are/have been 4x4s. I cant say how the Chevy will compare with the others over time but after owning it for 8 months and putting just over 6k miles on it Im not disappointed. Ive had no mechanical trouble so far, fuel economy has been in the low twenties, sometimes slightly better, the Chevy engine outperforms the others and I must be one of the only people who likes the plastic interior (this is a truck after all not a luxury automobile). I would have preferred bucket seats, an exterior door lock on the pasenger side and a ,stronger body but overall so far Im satisfied.
