  • Basic Pickup - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

When I was looking for a basic small regular cab, I4, 5 speed 4x4, I would have bought a Toyota, Nissian, or Ford (anything but a Dodge). Every one I looked at could not compare to the price of the Colorado.I was suprised with the standard options on it for the price,$13,000 with 24,000 miles. I havent had any problems with it in the 6 months Ive owned it. Im very satified with it, for a basic truck you cant complain about fit and finish and power for this price. The 5 speed is an overdrive and when I drop it in 4th there is enough power to merge on the highway. If you want bigger, faster, better, more power, youre going to pay for it. I will keep this truck until it goes to the junkyard.

I have enjoyed driving and owning this truck. It is comfortable for trips & long commutes, handles well in traffic and is most dependable. It works well for my personal hauling needs as well, great design features make it a handsome vehicle, one I am proud to own. The Onstar feature is great, the monthly report and diagnostics are an excellent tool for maintenance.

  • I like it...but. - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Okay so it runs great and it looks good but the traction stinks! I had a toyota 4-runner before this and it had better traction than this. My ABS fault comes on constantly which worries me a bit and my airbag light comes on freaquently too. When I bought it the rear transmission seal was broke but was fixed and covered by warrenty. Other than that I love it. Its just too light. I drive from MCB Quantico to Silver Spring every day and back for work and it gets pretty good gas mileage. Oh and my middle console squeaks a lot. Its quite annoying.

I imagine most people come on these sites to complain about problems but not many people take the time to praise a dependable vehicle. The Colorado has been great, I drive 20k a year and its well past its warrenty period without a peep of trouble.

  • Great truck - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Just a touch underpowered but good fuel mileage and comfortable ride is worth it. 24 mpg on the highway. When going on the beach, wouldnt want any other truck. I have pulled every other model out. More F150s than any other. Even had some refuse help cause they drove a Ford. O well, I just drove on by.

  • Better than youd expect - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Body & engine tight and smooth, interior trim a little rough(headliner doesnt fit shugly). Seat-belt receptacle cover breaks easily). Five speed shifts out smoothly for 1-5,but often resists going into reverse. Impressive acceleration for a 4- cylinder. Decent gas mileage averaging about 22 with a 50/50 mix of city & highway going all-out...26 highway if I nurse it. Only maintenance in 48,000 miles has been oil, filters, & tires.

  • Not up to the standard - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

The truck overall is a good truck. It get great gas mileage. The fit and finish of the truck is my problem. It rattles, creeks and groans. Ive had the truck since it was new and it sound like its a old truck. The dash make noise and overall the truck just sounds old. Power is OK, but thats all. Not as good as a full size truck for the fit and finish

  • Good little truck - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

I bought a 2 wheel drive work truck, couldnt afford the 4 wheel or the fancy models, but i have been pleased with the performance. It handles the logging roads in Maine without a care. It has crossed small streams and handled rutted muddy roads without issue. I live on a mountain and with studded snow tires I have made it home in the worst nor easters like it was a july day. The gas mileage is good. I average 23 day to day here in the foot hills of the Berkshires and get 25 plus on trips. The regular cab is wide enough and the seats are comfortable on long trips with plenty of leg room. Its not a rocket ship but it moves out well when you step on it.

  • Dont buy a Colorado - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

I am a devoted Chevy supporter, but I wish I would have not purchased this GM product. I havent had the truck 2 years and my transmission needs to be repaired (cost $2500). I can not begin to understand how the torque converter overheated causing the 2nd and 4th bands to lock up so it will not shift into gear (its an automatic). Since I have had the truck, it was not calibrated correctly to make a left hand u-turn, you have to back up and make 2 or 3 attempts to complete a left handed u-turn. I have had issues with the tailgate lock not unlocking. This is a poor product GM has come up with to replace the S-10. Gas mileage is horrible, I only get 18 mpg on the highway. Recall had to fix 2x.

  • My last Chevy - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

There are just too many small trucks around today to have to settle for a Colorado. The actual mpg is far less than rated, the fit & finish trim work very poor, (loose and flimsy) and still priced around the better quality made trucks.
