This Year's Model Updates:

Indigo Blue is added to the exterior palette. A CD player is made standard on the LS Sedan and Z24 Coupe. The Z24 Convertible has vanished from the lineup.

Pros:
  • Affordably priced, roomy enough for a family of four, Z24 is a stylish and speedy low-buck sport coupe.
Cons:
  • You get what you pay for in terms of comfort and convenience, Z24 Convertible no longer available, poor build quality.

This vehicle is GREAT! I got into a wreck where another driver hit me head on, and broke my windsheild and also made my airbags bust. But my engine was in GOOD shape nothing happened to it. Thank God!! This goes to show you that the engine in this car is GREATLY MADE!

This is the second Cavelier Ive owned. Both were bought new or near new and have exceeded my expectations for an economy car. Ive owned other economy cars, Mitsubitsi, Chevette, Honda, etc. with less than favorable results. I get 30 to 37mpg with a 5 speed manual transmission, and have driven on several vacations with no excessive driver fatigue. Ive had no mechanical problems, and generally trade after about 200,000 miles. My only negative comment is that I do get tired of shifting in city driving.

I bought this car in November 2003 with 56,000 miles on it, it now has 148,000. The car has been very reliable, needing only a couple of brake changes I did myself. I put in an aftermarket air intake that made a huge difference in performance. I would describe the 2.4 as being very eager. I get about 29 mpg every time i fill, but have seen as much as 38 mpg on road trips. Lost of squeaks rattles and engine noises, but I drive with the radio turned up.

  • Poor Quality all-round - 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

Had this car for 6 months now. The problems have snowballed. Had 110k km on it when I bought it. Since then the transmission seals have leaked horribly and the back struts rattle continuously when in motion. Definitely a decent looking car, yet the automatic is certainly very slow shifting. The repairs have added up in a few months and Ive had enough of Chevy for a lifetime.

Had the car about 2 years now, recently replaced the head gasket ($700) and waterpump ($300), both typical of the 2.2L engine. Extremely fun to drive (5 speed only), ice cold AC, good stock sound system, sporty styling, has never overheated, decent gas mileage, good value for what you pay. Acceleration is great with the 5- sp! Cig lighter is in a bad place, as are temp controls, rattles terribly under 1500 rpm, hesitant idle, shaky at much above 70 mph, cracked dash (of course), "clunky" steering, dash/glove box rattle.

I bought his car brand new and I have had this car about six years now. The glove box has rattled since day one and the dash board cracked at about forty thousand miles. I will say that is a very reliable car. Always started up no matter how cold or how hot. Inexpensive to fix and because of the price had a nicer car than most of my friends. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable, inexpensive, decent looking car.

  • Cheap Sports Coupe - 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

I bought this car 3 weeks ago and so far the only problems have been a burned out fog light and a CD player that doesnt work. The engine on this car is strong and reminds me of my V6 Cavalier in that its strong and responsive. Gas mileage isnt bad for a small car but could be better: 25 MPG. It rides a little harsh but thats what you get when you get the Z24. Exterior styling with the 16-inch wheels and black paint is attractive. The interior, while functional, is full of cheap plastics and rattles. I also dont like the location of the power window switches. I love the stereo and speakers though. Rear seat room is better than youd think and the seats are much nicer than in the base model.

Ive had this car for five months and needed to replace the head gasket and coolant system. The car has run warmer than it should since I got it, and just recently finally decided to overheat. This car is only at 51,000 miles. Keep searching for other cars!

I bought a Chevy Cavalier as a car to get me through university as I lived a long way from campus. It was great, reliable and because of the lower price, I was driving a much nicer car than most of my friends. For a first nice car, it was a great buy and I am looking into buying a newer model in the next few months

Very nice to drive. Fun but expensive for fuel. Good for 19-20 year olds. Not a family car at all
