This Year's Model Updates:

The Avalanche gets numerous interior upgrades for '03 in addition to the midyear introduction of a "decladded" version that does without the oft-derided extensive lower body trim. Dual-zone climate control is now standard equipment on all models along with multistage airbags and a passenger airbag sensor. A redesigned instrument panel houses a more comprehensive driver information display; and an optional multifunction steering wheel puts climate, radio and trip computer controls right in the palm of your hands. New entertainment options include a Bose stereo system, XM Satellite Radio and a rear passenger DVD video system. Other new options include the StabiliTrak stability control system on 2WD half-ton models, adjustable pedals, and a fully automatic multizone climate control system.

Pros:
  • Versatile and innovative cab configuration, strong V8 engines, substantial towing ability.
Cons:
  • Some cheap interior pieces, lifeless steering, limited drivetrain choices.

  • My truck - 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

Ive had this truck since early April of 2003 and Ive never seen so many grinning faces. My truck is an Arrival Blue and it looks great! Cound not get the price I wanted to find it here (Long Island, NY) but the prices are almost non-negotiable, so I bought it on line. I had to fly (45 minutes) to save $4000. Ive taken it a few places and didnt have any problems with it. One thing though, The steering is very "vauge".

  • Chevys Better Idea - 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

GM/Chevrolet produced a nice "two in one" vehicle with the Avalanche/Esclade EXT (although the AV is probably the better bang for the buck). Smooth ride and drives smaller than it looks. Steering is a bit loose, but doesnt pitch badly on turns. Brake pedal is spongy, but still stops well. People who complain about the mileage should buy a smaller 6 cylinder vehicle. Toyota Tundra doesnt do much better with less room. Acceleration is decent, but not overpowering. Ive changed the exhaust to duals and it helps. Easy to change. Fun to drive and gets a lot of looks.

  • Change for a Dollar - 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche
    By -

As I was getting out my Avalanche I herd "Hey, is that one of them there change for a dollar trucks?" "Yep," I said. And then it was off on my normal show a tell for the mid-gate for the Avalanche. This truck gets attention, where ever it goes. Rather its with the mid-gate down and hauling a load of junk to the dump or mid-gate up and rear window in place, hauling the boat to take the family fishing; everyone wants a look at the Avalanche. And I swear, the more attention it gets, the better it runs. Work or play, the Avalanche does it equally well and with style.

Very reliable! Never had issues with this truck, its a blessing. Of course like any vehicle with 160, 000 u have minor issues that need tweaking but take care of your truck an shell take care of you. I also purchased a tent that fits in the truck bed! Just take out the back window and drop the "middle" gate an have access to interior of the truck from the tent, so perfect for cold nights when u need to pump some heat to the tent. This truck isnt just our way to get around its part of the family

  • Make the midgate an option! - 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche
    By -

Good ride if you like the suburban. The truck begs to be moded so get ready to spend some money. MPG is fair about 16 for real. Bed area is not water tight and never will be. Area around the wheel wells need protection and better chip resistent paint is needed on the hood. GM could do a lot better job with customer satisfaction. This truck is going to be one of those trucks that ten years down the road needs floor boards that have rusted out form leaking midgate. If you plan on keeping this truck for ever keep it as dry as possible.
