This Year's Model Updates:

The Avalanche gets numerous interior upgrades for '03 in addition to the midyear introduction of a "decladded" version that does without the oft-derided extensive lower body trim. Dual-zone climate control is now standard equipment on all models along with multistage airbags and a passenger airbag sensor. A redesigned instrument panel houses a more comprehensive driver information display; and an optional multifunction steering wheel puts climate, radio and trip computer controls right in the palm of your hands. New entertainment options include a Bose stereo system, XM Satellite Radio and a rear passenger DVD video system. Other new options include the StabiliTrak stability control system on 2WD half-ton models, adjustable pedals, and a fully automatic multizone climate control system.

Pros:
  • Versatile and innovative cab configuration, strong V8 engines, substantial towing ability.
Cons:
  • Some cheap interior pieces, lifeless steering, limited drivetrain choices.

  • This is a truck ?? - 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

You will not believe this is a truck when you ride in it. It rides like a full sized car (comfortable). I was pleasantly surprized at the pep this truck had for its big size.

I picked up a load of 4X8 plywood sheets and totally enclosed the tail gate and all--just in case it rained on the way home. The guy at the hardware store couldnt figure out what I was doing. He may still be there scratching his head! Always have what I need in the comparments. I cant believe more contractors are buying these and why Chevy hasnt built a contractor model!

I was surprised to say the least I went from a BMW 325i to this monster and Im loving every minute of it ! Yes the MPGs are horrible ... but overall driving and feeling like you own the road and safety make this a truck/car/whatever Im keeping for years to come. I just wish Chevy had put a diesel in there !

  • Great Riding Truck, Bed/Midgate H2o trap - 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

Inovative truck with a smooth stable ride. This truck has a very comfortable ride, that is very well suited for towing (Z66 package). The DIC panel gives very useful info and warning data, Ie... % oil life, transmission oil temp info, low oil level..great for those who tow and self maintain )Not crazy about the plastic trim but I guess it will grow on me. The rubber seals around the bed cover and the mid- gate are not water tight and will leak more with age. The

  • Two Vehicles in One - 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

I needed a vehicle that I could use for hauling Home Depot supplies, fire wood, wood chips, dirt and all the other basic home owner truck type activities. I also needed a vehicle to take on family trips, hauling luggage and camping gear. I have 2 growing boys (11&12 yrs old) that have been complaining about being cramped in the back of the my extended cab Dodge Dakota for a couple of years now. The Avalanche is solving all of my needs - itll haul pretty much anything I need and is a nice big highway cruiser for our many family annual trips - my boys love all of the room in the back seat now! A pickup truck and a SUV all in one vehicle!

  • Perfect vehicle for my use - 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche
    By -

I bought a 2002 Chevy 1500HD Crew Cab first. It was too long and drove too rough. Traded for the 2002 Avalanche and glad I did. Its got a smooth, comfortable ride and is fun to drive. I think my wife likes it better than her 2001 Tahoe. Due to its versatility, its just about the perfect vehicle for my use.

  • Greatest truck ever but ! - 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche
    By -

Acually purchased July5,2001. I love this truck and am fixing to buy another one. Only one major problem. I use truck off road a lot where there are no roads. When I first got I had trouble with the plastic coating on the front bumper. Ever time I touched something or pushed over a small bush or tree the bumper split . Chevolet would not repair or give me a solution to the )I immediately designed a 2-inch tube for a "bush pusher" to be mounted in front of this plastic bumper. It cost me about $5.00 for material, 15 minutes labor and my company epoxy power coated it.

The avalanch is a very versitle and enjoyable truck. For me as a homeowner and family person its perfect for hauling, truckin my stuff around or my kids. VERY smooth ride, easy to drive, and easy to modify from truck to SUV. Interior is nice, but not lexus style... so a few knocks there. But durable. Also, fuel economy isnt great but what did you expect?
