  • WORST CAR EVER MADE!!! - 1998 Cadillac Catera
    By -

Alright, Ever since I was in highschool, I loved this car. Finally found one and have spent more than I purchased it for ($4,500) on repairs. Its an electrical and mechanical nightmare. The engine is basically shot (needs new heads) Body control module (brain of the car) is shot, control arms are shot, differential is shot. Misc. electric options cease to work. The a/c barely works and the heater doesnt work at all even though ive spent hundreds of dollars trying to remedy it. Its over-heating and low oil pressure (more than likely b/c of the heads). And all that is just to name a little!! The sad part is I bought the car certified and have pampered this car with no love in return.

  • US and quality, just does not exist - 2001 Cadillac Catera
    By -

I bought this car because it was built in Germany. Shortly after I found out that many components have been altered to fit GMs US-requirements, which do not include quality. I have the same issues as many posted here, electrical issues (US version has an extensive OBD-II emission system which is not even cleaner than Europes)and mechanical issues (rough running engine, stalling).

  • Absolutely the Worst Car Ever - 1998 Cadillac Catera

i bought this car in May of 2008 with 114,000 miles. First day i got the car, drove to someones house, go to leave, car wouldnt start. Needed new starter, $334.Within a 11 months... rear main seal, $700. New battery, $100, new alternator $400. Cylinder missfire, $910. Speedometer and odometer went out. Power steering went out. Everytime i braked, steering wheel would jerk and pull car all over the road. Sometimes couldnt pull key out of ignition, have to keep shifting till it came out. Slow coolant leak. finally car would start again, engine problems. just parts estimated $1500. im junking the car. The list goes on. Do you need any more of a reason to NOT buy this car?

  • An Absolute WASTE Of Money! - 2000 Cadillac Catera

I havent even had this car for a month and its already been in the shop three different times! Problems with the engine, mass air flow sensor, gaskets, and electrical problems. The first week I had it, ran great. Now the radio and heated seats quit working. And to top it all off, the sunroof automatically opens at random times and will not close! I thought cadillacs were nice reliable luxery vehicles???? Dont let the looks fool you!

I bought this car from my parents with 105,000 miles on it. It has been fun to drive. The major problem has been with oil leaking. I found a good mechanic who likes to work on this one. He said the engine is a really good one. It is so quiet and smooth you can hardly tell it is running when in idle at a stop light. I am selling for a newer 4x4 but will always like this car. I know it doesnt get the best reviews, but there are alot of nice features about this car. It is heavy and you feel safe and secure in it.

  • Run from this one. - 1998 Cadillac Catera
    By -

Bought this car from dealer as a certified used vehicle with 42,000 miles. Service engine light on and off as well other indicator lights for no apparent reason. Long story short, at 80,000 miles everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. With a loss of apx. $4,500.00 in repairs, parked the thing, using it as lawn ornament. Engine and cooling system is crap. Cadillac offered $1000.00 rebate if we would buy a new cadillac. Needless to say you know what I told them. The Bose radio is great...What can you say. Run run run even if someone tries to give you this car, you will be doing fix and repair daily.

  • Run Farrrr Away From Catera - 2000 Cadillac Catera
    By -

the car runs perfectly when ur not spending thousands of dollars on it. worst cadillac ever built.check engine light always on.most users complain about cosmetic faults like door knob and all but let me tell you all the issues you will have with this cadi. catalytic converters, mass air flow sensor,o2 sensors, camshaft postion sensor, secondary air solenoid, crank sensor, air injection pump, modulator. once you fix all of those,a few thousand dollars after, you are good to go for a month or so till they all go bad again. trust me on this, the car is beautiful, lovely interior and sound system but there is something bout the engineering that just makes all those things go bad

  • Worst Car Ever - 1999 Cadillac Catera
    By -

I bought this car for $5000 with 60k miles on it or so.10k miles later I was forced to get rid of it for $100. It has been on the market for so long and no longer would run. I kept pouring money into it and it never would work. Worse car I ever owned. The Catera isnt even Cadillac. The Cadillac dealer in my town refused to work on them. They said it wasnt a real Cadillac. I will never buy any GM car again.

well when we first looked at this car we thought...wow. We found a car that looks and drives like a dream for the right price...we were right but soon after we drove it hope the electric in this car went wacky, the headlight went out..$25. Then the brake lights stop working as well as the sunroof, cruise control and other small things
