Overview & Reviews
New 528i and 540i sport wagons debut, all 5 Series models achieve low emission vehicle (LEV) status, and consumers will find extensive new standard and optional equipment on the cars.
- Sport sedan and wagon in a luxury car package.
- Cheap plastic buttons for the power door lock switches are out of place in a car of this caliber, manual transmission in 540i difficult to modulate smoothly.

Great alternative to the SUV - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By family_hauler - September 23 - 2:00 amHave had this car for a month now. I purchased it as my 3 series was too small for the family. Absolutely the best car I have owned to date. Performance of V8 and sports package is amazing. Steptronic transmission is velvet smooth. Fit and finish are excellent. Maintenance is very reasonable if you do it yourself. Take a look at www.roadfly.org to learn about typical problems. Only problem is that wife and I fight over who will drive it. (she has an Acura MDX) Keep an eye on the radiator as these are known to fail every 50K. (A $300 DIY fix). Purchase a set of winter tires

Best selling Bimmer! - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By orupaperboy - September 21 - 2:00 amI bought this car used, and love it!! Rides great, wonderful handling, great acceleration. Good looking car. Gas mileage would be better, but I commute 15 minutes in the city.

Great car, but only for small people - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By James R. Bartlett - August 11 - 2:00 amBeautifully engineered and manufactured, but really fits people only 56" or less, with narrow shoulders. Car is very fragile due to lack of road clearance in front. Beware of curbs and parking lot bumps.

paradigm of performance/luxury - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By enthusiast - April 8 - 2:00 amOne of the best performing cars I ever owned. Had the sport package and could not believe the superb handling...especially around curves and corners. Its best to accellerate on corners as the car seems to bight the road with tremendous control and grip. Traded up to 2003 745. Loved my 5 series but not the styling of the new 2004 model.

Fun to Drive but lacks Quality - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By rpcmig - February 22 - 2:00 amBought new in 99 and currently have 65k miles. Great handling and sporty ride.Awesome to drive but its starting to fall apart. Its been back to the dealer countless times to replace different sensors.Currently having electrical problems. Something keeps draining the battery and the car wont start after sitting for an hour.Dealer says repair could be expensive. Everyone knows the cupholders are awful. I feel we paid way too much for what we got. We would have been better served with a Lexus or Volvo.

Never Again! - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By Dan_Coleman - January 4 - 2:00 amJunk!!! This is my second BMW and definately my last. My last BMW 325i was very expensive to maintain but more reliable than this! I bought this car new and since owning it some of the repairs have been 2 water pumps, power locks, sensors replaced, transmission replaced (almost $10,000), a wheel bearing, and the list goes on! The regular maintenance is a nightmare. Ive spent over $1000 at the dealer for front brake work. My friend owns a 1999 Volvo S80 T6 with more miles and his car has been great! Regular maintenance is low and his car is very reliable. The T6 (twin-turbo) blows away BMWs V8. The Volvo S80 T6 is a much better choice!

The Best Yet ! - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By Nigel - December 28 - 2:00 amI bought my BMW 528i certified pre- owned. After it was checked over completely from the start I felt great driving it off the lot. I continue to drive with confidene. Very reliable and adored by all people a shocked to hear its not brand new. I get offers every week to buy the car from me. I owned 3 BMW 3 series but the 528i is the best yet !
