Model Overview:

It's no exaggeration to say that the BMW 5 Series sets the standard for premium sport sedans. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the midsize 5 Series has long offered a near-perfect blend of performance, luxury and interior room. It's also highly regarded for its refined styling and innovative technology features.

Most BMW 5 Series models you'll come across will be rear-wheel-drive sedans, though you'll stumble upon the occasional 5 Series wagon on the used car market. In addition, all-wheel drive has been optional for some time, and many used sedans in colder climes will be so equipped. Traditionally, the 5 Series has featured an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, but BMW has also offered V8 engines, turbocharged four-cylinders and even diesel-powered options. When people ask us to recommend luxury cars, the BMW 5 Series is invariably high on the list, new or used.

  • 4th BMW and I love it! - 2006 BMW 5-Series

This is my 5th BMW and my first 5 series! BMW has once again blown me over! I absolutely love the way this car drives & the stickshift is like butter. I live in CT/NYC area where the traffic is bad constantly and my BMWs performance in traffic is one less thing to stress over. You just cant beat BMW engineering. I have seen complaints about the iDrive but its very simple. The warranties are the BEST in the industry. We have 3 BMWs in my driveway making us loyal to a manufacturer who delivers high quality

Bought it certified preowned and love it. For an avg family its a great car and very fun to drive. I have a 91 240SX that Im having a problem giving up, but this is just as fun to drive and much more comfortable. Ive been getting 26 to 29 mpg and the interior is comfortable and relaxing on the hwy. Overall I love it. I got the newest GPS disks and it made the GPS much more usable. The original 2001 disks were very weak in rural areas. Ive owned it for 4 months now and am very happy with the decision.

  • Best built car Ive ever owned! - 2001 BMW 5-Series

I have owned most cars that are made. This is my first BMW- a 525 with auto, and premium package. Extremely responsive, quick, the smoothest transmission I have ever experienced. I have owned a Mercedes E320. They are two different animals but I prefer the BMW-and I do think it is a higher quality car-fit, finish-not much bad to say about it-the 530 is quicker, but the 525 is a good compromise.

  • A whole different level - 2006 BMW 5-Series

This car is a real pleasure to drive. Dead quiet without a bit of mush. The 525i wont throw your head back into the powered headrest but it does get you onto the interstate just fine. Once there you can cruise at 70mph/2400rpm and watch your mpg gauge hover above the 30mpg mark. I often find myself seeking out corners to carve. If I was forced to complain... it takes a little bit more time to zip between radio bands and stations or ejecting and inserting CDs. IDrive would be rough on the techno challenged among us. Im not used to a car without a dipstick either. Dont let any of this stop you from experiencing the craftsmanship and engineering excellence of this car. Even if its a test drive

  • Comfort, performance, & style - 2007 BMW 5-Series

My 550I is fun to drive, especially on the open road. Gas mileage in city driving is on the low side, freeway driving is excellent. Vehicle comfort and handling is excellent. Performance is excellent. The "heads up" display needs improvement (my 2001 Corvettes C5, heads up display is by far superior). Styling...always gets head turning!

Ive had this car for two months and its great!

  • Love my 550 - 2006 BMW 5-Series

I have had this car close to a year. The only negatives: driver side window down is NOT aerodynamic, and wind is all over ones face. My phone is not picked up on the bluetooth (my phone is a brand new LG), and lastly, gas mileage is abysmal. However this car is fast as can be. 140 feels like 100. So get a good ticket attorney. I have had a lot of issues with the very very low front end on the sports package. The front bumper easily comes off bc it is so low and it catches on everything. Therefore, I park as if I drive a large SUV. This car is comfortable and very very fun to drive!

  • Great... but - 2008 BMW 5-Series

Bought the wagon after waiting till 08 model came out. All good things in it but the seats are not as comfortable as the, for example, old 525 of 2001 (I had one). Seems that seats are now smaller(?). Lines are beautiful, got it in Titanium silver and black interior. really nioce. Got the navigation system. I still have to decide whether I like it or not (it is a bit distracting). Should have a "beep" something to alert about animals, etc. Dont think I would order it again. The iDrive is OK, but quite frankly if it didnt have it, things would be easier. Do not like the run flat tires. MPG is disappointing (highway is a challenge to stay at 24 MPG).

  • Wish I had More. - 2006 BMW 5-Series

Overall a great car. Smooth ride, quiet and comfortable. The engine in the 525 seems underpowered for the vehicle size which causes the transmission to shift strangely in gears 1 and 2. Very little road noise, great handling and gas mileage. Contrary to many comments the iDrive is not that difficult to learn.

First Bimmer ever owned and never going back... most likely an M5 in a year or two as I crave more raw power!!
