Not alot of miles yet, but first impression - FABULOUS. Love the Active steering and ARS, makes the car drive like its on rails. Logic7 stereo is great, though I am haming same issue as another reviewer with sound dropping out. iDrive is very convenient, loaded with information, and easy as a mouse to use. The nay- sayer mag. writers just need a 10 minute lesson to figure it out. Drove both regular and sport versions - the active steering makes any car feel like manual assist. Very well built and detailed. I have had more thumbs- up compliments with this car (sapphire on black) than any other car Ive owned, and Ive had a bunch.

This was my 3rd BMW. I am truly in love with this car, I have taken excellent care of it. Maintenance wise, I have done everything I am supposed to do and more. It only has 75,000 miles on it. I purchased it in 2009 and repairs have been minimal until now. The computer has been in and out (works most of the time) have been to 2 different dealerships and they dont have a clue whats wrong with it. I can live with that, however, my emission system has caused the "check engine" light to be on because of "increased emissions" and was told by the dealer that the cost of repairing this would be more than the car is worth. What the heck! I live in Cobb County and am forced to get an emission sticker each year when I renew my tag. What am I supposed to do now???? I am basically driving a car that is "totaled" because of the repair. What is BMW thinking when they put such a system on a car?. Would like to hear from anyone else about this to see if this is a defect on this car and if there is anything that can be done by BMW to remedy this.

I have a 525i/w sport package and I love it. Its a sports car with class and room for the whole family at the same time. From the outside it looks like you typical luxury sedan, on the inside, well move over granny, its all sport.

  • IF ITS A SPORT CAR YOU WANT, GET IT! - 2004 BMW 5-Series

This is an ultimate driving machine. 6- sp manual transmission is a must for driving enthusiasts. Not many manufacturers offer this. Car is extremely fast and handling is superb. New sport package hugs the road you always feel in control, at any speed. I invested in a new radar detector immediately. Inside comfort is great and new I-drive is easy to use, especially compared to original version. If you are a driving enthusiast, you will love this car. If you want a luxury sports car this is it, if you want a luxury boat go for the Mercedes.

525i Auto w/ Premium & Cold Weather Pkgs - Looks great inside & out. (Whats all the fuss about? They kept the classic BMW styling cues, but made it sleek, & modern looking.) Lots of convenience features (i.e. driver position memory, dual climate control, free scheduled maintenance, etc.) 2.5L 6-cyl is adequate, but unexciting. Auto transmission is smooth and shifts well. Ride is refined and quiet, as you would expect. Roomy and comfortable interior.

  • It gets better! - 2004 BMW 5-Series

I drove a 2000 5-series for 4 years and thought it couldnt get any better. Wow!...was I surprised! BMW has NOT disappointed me and it lives up to all of my expectations. The ride is smooth; handling superb; and its filled with all of the comforts expected in a mid-sized luxury car! I look forward to getting into my 5 and driving each day.

  • Best BMW I have ever owned! - 2004 BMW 5-Series

I have now owned my 530i, 2004 for three months and enjoy driving the "Utimate Driving Machine". It handles better tan my previous BMW X5, which is hard to imagine. I love the power and control the car has, making me feel safe on the road! I recommend this car highly.

If you can get a 2003 530i (old style) then buy that one. The "new" 5 does not even come close to this car. I have both 2003 & 2004. If I could get rid of the 04 I would in a second. The car vibrates at 80 mph. When the wind hits it is like a sailboat. Lots of wind noise inside. The headlights are pointed too low and you can only see about 10-15 feet ahead of you at night. It doesnt even have a coin holder!!! Definitely, does NOT feel like a BMW.

The car is quite fast and handles very well especially when cornering. Driver comfort is excellant but could use some more space for storage in the glove compartments. The 6 speed shifting is the only way to go with this auto. Beware of bad weather as the car does not handle well in snow and ice. The i drive system is easier than the old one but still is a bit tricky and sometimes takes your eye off the road.

  • ANOTHER STEP UP - 2004 BMW 5-Series

I BOUGHT A NEW BMW 325 THREE YEARS AGO AND WAS BLOWN AWAY BY ITS PERFORMANCE AND THE SERVICE OF ITS DEALERS. BASED ON THIS I DECIDED TO GO ONE STEP FURTHER AND BUY A NEW 2004 525. IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE BUT IT IS EVEN BETTER THAN THE THREE. I LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT.
