Overview & Reviews
The 525 and 530 models receive an all-new 3.0-liter inline-six engine this year, and BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system is now available to serve those who need a little more bad-weather bite. BMW is also offering a versatile 5 Series wagon to U.S. customers once more, though only in 530xi trim. The 545i has been replaced by the 550i, which features a 360-horsepower, 4.8-liter V8.
- One of the most satisfying midsize sport sedans/wagons you can buy, ultrarefined engines, multiple transmissions, tastefully appointed cabin, exceptional build quality, strong resale value.

Very Pleased - 2006 BMW 5-Series
By Car Nut - November 26 - 11:58 pmWe purchased CPO, the same as our long term 2002 5 series, and didnt think I could like it more than what I already had. Well, I do. These cars feel as if they are carved out of one solid block of steel and drive/handle like nothing else. It is luxurious, incredibly sporty and awesome. Probably the absolute best value there is in a high end car.

From Mercedes to BMW - 2006 BMW 5-Series
By new bmw fan - September 24 - 9:11 pmI have a black on black BMW 530i with smoked windows and a 6-speed stick tranny. This car is absolutely the coolest car Ive owned. I get so many looks and glances in the parking lot and this car isnt even brand new. It was a CPO and I got a very good deal on it. It runs smooth all the way up to 125 mph (fastest Ive gone in it) and handles like a dream. The steering is very quick around parking lots but not too quick out on the highway. Its also very quick. I was bored one afternoon and timed a 6.5 sec 0-60 run, w/o even launching it from a high rev. It feels much stronger than its somewhat unamazing 255hp and 220 lb-ft torque would suggest. The rear seats are huge and comfy

Long time BMW owner - 2006 BMW 5-Series
By longtimebmwowner - September 2 - 3:44 pmIve owned this car for 2 years and a 740IL previously. This car handles very well, rides very comfortably and can handle my 63" frame easily. The 28+MPG highway is a great deal with $4+ gas. I find the I-drive OK, but would prefer manual controls for heat/AC and radio. I-drive is good for navigation and communications. I find the brake dust excessive and pits the rims if not removed quickly (my rims are waxed for protection).

Best BMW Ive Owned - 2006 BMW 5-Series
By MJE - August 21 - 7:26 pmThis is my third BMW, and I currently own a 2001 540i that is a great car. This new 2006 530i is an amazing and better car, and I dont understand what the various auto magazines are thinking in their reviews! This car is an outstanding blend of quickness, agility, comfort, build quality, and amazing technical features. The iDrive is actually easy to use and very cool. The sports suspension and seats are more comfortable than past 5 series while handling better, thanks to the active roll bar technology. The 530i engine has solid power with 255 HP and great fuel efficiency - gettng about 30 MPG highway and good economy with stop and go driving.

I Finally Got It - 2006 BMW 5-Series
By Finally Got It - June 30 - 11:26 amJust took delivery of my new 2006 BMW 530i Automatic. What a difference from the 05 model I had. Its quick, handles better, and the premium sound system is unbelievable. A great improvement in horsepower and fuel economy over the 05. Didnt notice any major changes over the 05 except for power and performance.

Uber Wagon - 2006 BMW 5-Series
By Steve - May 29 - 5:10 pmHaving owned the previous 540ti Wagon model (w/V8), this is a clear positive evolution. Drives like a road-gobbling sedan. Surprising torque leaves me missing the V8 only slightly. The car reminds me of its safe, but thrilling ride. Love it!

Loving It - 2006 BMW 5-Series
By Phil - May 20 - 7:50 pmGreat car! Powerful, fast and fun, yet refined. I can sum up driving this car in one word: confidence! This is a car for persons who love to drive and to feel the car interact with the road (as opposed to being shielded from it). The iDrive is fine (even helpful) once you get the hang of it. Try it, youll like it.

A Car for the Enthusiast! - 2006 BMW 5-Series
By Cosmo - April 4 - 1:20 pmSome people purchase cars strictly to get from point A to point B, I am not one of those people. I have always been a car enthusiast, and the 1st time I drove a BMW, I got a rush similar to the moto-cross racing days of my youth. What a machine! The sweet sound of a BMW in-line six approaching the red line is unmatched by any other manufacturer. I test drove Lexus, Mercedes, Infiniti, Audi, all fine cars, but they just dont have the BMW "tight" feel as you carve through corners and rip down the highway. These cars feel solid and planted to the road. The iDrive system is a breeze to use, no complaints. I did put two 10 inch subs in the trunk to boost the bass, and all is well!!

Absolutely Perfect! - 2006 BMW 5-Series
By femmedrive - April 3 - 10:38 pmLove this car more than any other. Purchased sports package, winter package and upgraded further to 19" special order BMW rims w/new michelins (handles even better than with stock), had dealer tint windows (hot in NC during summer). Handling is perfect. Also negotiated for iPod hook up which is now a necessity. iDrive & bluetooth easy to use if you spend a few minutes with it. Less buttons on dash is good - hate a cluttered console. Havent had a single problem with anything. This car is absolutely gorgeous. I cant count the number of compliments I get on it and mostly from men who are surprised its driven by a woman :-)
