Overview & Reviews
New 528i and 540i sport wagons debut, all 5 Series models achieve low emission vehicle (LEV) status, and consumers will find extensive new standard and optional equipment on the cars.
- Sport sedan and wagon in a luxury car package.
- Cheap plastic buttons for the power door lock switches are out of place in a car of this caliber, manual transmission in 540i difficult to modulate smoothly.

Good driver - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By Bill - January 15 - 9:52 amI love this car, a bit expensive for non-warranty items (expected). Drives VERY well. Acceleration, handling, and braking are the best I have found so far. Got this car at a bargain price, and paid the price for some needed repairs, but since being brought back to specs it has delivered respectable and dependable sevice. Fuel mileage has amazed me in that when driven sanely I average 21-22 in town and 26- 27 on the highway ... all that in a car that will do over 155 mph if you wish.

Smiles, smiles, smiles, repair... - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By gmoney68 - January 10 - 7:39 pmYou will love this car! I have the 6sp. Fun to drive, great to look at. Youll receive a ton of compliments. Oil changes are only required every 12k. My radiator has gone twice. Its plastic, but was under warranty. I replaced the cupholders with Ultimate Cupholders that mount near the floor in the front and replaced the rears with a CD holder. You will love this car. Just do yourself the favor and DIY maintenance/repairs or find a reliable private non-dealer BMW shop.

All Day Amusement Park! - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By BMW540i6 - December 21 - 4:19 pmI absolutely love the 540i 6speed. It has tremendous torque for when I want to go fast, but is elegant and civilized when I have the two infants in the back. I enjoy doing the work myself so labor cost is not an issue, but parts can be more expensive than some other makes. If youre an enthusiast like me, youll love this car.

1999 528i i love it! - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By pauljr - November 4 - 5:09 pmBought this car used with 117,000 miles on it. Ive put almost 5000 on it since august. I love it! Ive had a Mercedes E420 a 1997, a 1992 911 carrera 2, 1997 911 C4S. This BMW drives like a cross between the others. The interior is by far the best of all the other cars. The 2.8 inline 6 gives just enough power to have a great time without the tickets you get in a Porsche.

Great Sports Sedan - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By bimmersfca - January 3 - 11:12 pmI recently purchased the 528i Sports & Premium Package. It is the 3rd BMW I have owned and I continue to be impressed by the overall engineering, fit & finish, performance, and fun to drive features of the 528i. I have been able to test the Sports packages suberb handling while driving down the Northern California Coast to Pebble Beach and up to the Napa Valley. As the daily driver, the 528i provides great utility, comfort, and excitement during my twenty mile (mostly freeway) commute. With a growing family, the BMW 5-series is the perfect compromise between performance and practicality.

paradigm of performance/luxury - 1999 BMW 5-Series
By enthusiast - April 8 - 2:00 amOne of the best performing cars I ever owned. Had the sport package and could not believe the superb handling...especially around curves and corners. Its best to accellerate on corners as the car seems to bight the road with tremendous control and grip. Traded up to 2003 745. Loved my 5 series but not the styling of the new 2004 model.
