Model Overview:

It's no exaggeration to say that the BMW 5 Series sets the standard for premium sport sedans. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the midsize 5 Series has long offered a near-perfect blend of performance, luxury and interior room. It's also highly regarded for its refined styling and innovative technology features.

Most BMW 5 Series models you'll come across will be rear-wheel-drive sedans, though you'll stumble upon the occasional 5 Series wagon on the used car market. In addition, all-wheel drive has been optional for some time, and many used sedans in colder climes will be so equipped. Traditionally, the 5 Series has featured an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, but BMW has also offered V8 engines, turbocharged four-cylinders and even diesel-powered options. When people ask us to recommend luxury cars, the BMW 5 Series is invariably high on the list, new or used.

THE luxury sports sedan that sets the standard. Awesome throttle response; incredible handling. Tremendous braking. 4 years / 50,000 miles of included service! Outstanding build quality; far better than my last car: Acura TL (not to mention the horrible Acura customer service). The BMW is wonderful. Forget cupholder complaints. Who wants to drink or eat in this machine? Enjoy the driving. Far more satisfying than some drink.

Traded in my 02 325 - wow!!! What a difference! Even though this is a larger car it handles superbly. Tight steering, good acceleration, smooth braking. Quality, fit and finish are all outstanding with top grade materials. The iDrive has a steep learning curve but very useful once you have it mastered.

I waited until Feb 2001 to order my 530i with the 5spd. I didnt want a sunroof so I had to go to the 5 Series Program Manger at BMWNA to get what I wanted. Its a great car, just plain fun to drive. Youre always looking for the winding road. The torque is ride across the power band.

  • What a Car!!! - 2002 BMW 5-Series

This is the best, most fun car I have ever owned. I have owned Lexus and Mercedes. This BMW is better. Mostly, itÂ’s fun to drive. Now want a longer commute. The Steptronic Transmission is a dream. You can roar around shifting like a race diver or cruise relaxed in auto mode. The throaty purr of that engine is music to my ears. You are at 100 mph in seconds and it tracks straight and true with great confidence at speed. Fit and finish quality is superb. The Xenon headlights really do make night driving easier. My recommendation is to spend the extra $10-$15K to get a car that will take you beyond transportation; its an experience!

My son and I did European Delevery of car. Drove it in and around Munich and into Zurich. Finding our way was not a problem with Nav System and the new i drive was as easy as 123. My son is a pilot for a major airline and found the nav system easy to program as well as trained me for my entire trip and all of the destination through Swetzerland with ease. Handling the car in the Alps and snow was a pleasure.

Got my 540--at first overjoyed, then probs began. Clutch issues, then a REPLACED trans. at 18K mi.!! For a loaner, I repeatedly got a Hundai!! Astounding!! It happened to my brother, too. BMW never showed me any appreciation of my investment or expectation. Insulting! a Ive heard it before, now I know. Be careful. New clutch for 2 grand??? And still the trans. never worked right. It became pathetic. Ended lease early.

  • The Ultimate Driving Machine - 2008 BMW 5-Series

Before I bought the BMW I test drove Lexus, Audi and Infiniti. All of them are good cars. BMW is the the ultimate car. It is extremely confortable and drives like a sport car. The combination between luxury, handling and acceleration cannot be said about any other car in its class or in any other class for that matter.
