Model Overview:

It's no exaggeration to say that the BMW 5 Series sets the standard for premium sport sedans. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the midsize 5 Series has long offered a near-perfect blend of performance, luxury and interior room. It's also highly regarded for its refined styling and innovative technology features.

Most BMW 5 Series models you'll come across will be rear-wheel-drive sedans, though you'll stumble upon the occasional 5 Series wagon on the used car market. In addition, all-wheel drive has been optional for some time, and many used sedans in colder climes will be so equipped. Traditionally, the 5 Series has featured an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, but BMW has also offered V8 engines, turbocharged four-cylinders and even diesel-powered options. When people ask us to recommend luxury cars, the BMW 5 Series is invariably high on the list, new or used.

  • Only the Germans can do this... - 2003 BMW 5-Series

I purchased a 530iA with a Sport Package about 6 weeks ago. I shopped, I compared, I slept on it, I thought of compromise, nothing could take me away. Boy am I glad I stuck with my intial instinct. This car does what you want it to do! Go! Stop! Corner! Its exhilirating every time I approach those 17" alloys, open and enter the chamber, sit in that bad ass seat and rap my hands around that 3 spoke sport wheel. The only complaint I have is that there are too many other cars on the road that interfere with my ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE AND ME!

This is truly an amazing vehicle to drive. Excellent handling, super fast, acceleration is as smooth as silk, very little cabin noise. The iDrive takes no more than 1 hour to learn. Hands down the best sedan in its class. Bravo BMW!

  • Excellent, but not perfect - 2003 BMW 5-Series

This is my first BMW, and its reputation is well founded. It is a blast to drive, both in town and especially on long trips. Shouldnt a $45,000 car have an in dash CD changer? The interior is beautiful, but not very functional. There is no storage in the console, the cupholders are a joke. The climate controls are illogical, but work well. The gas pedal is too vertical-only my toes touch the pedal. Why can the US and Japanese make brakes that dont dust, and the Europeans cant?

  • Piece of cheap junk - 2013 BMW 5-Series
    By -

I bought a 2013 CPO 528XI and I also got the 100K warranty. Lucky I did. The first thing I noticed was the door panels and console covering coloring coming off. The tan interior on the door panels and console was turning. At first I thought it was dirt. But when I started “cleaning” it I realized it was actually the tan coloring coming off. Brake rotors have to be replaced every 25,000 of highway driving. Next BMW had to replace the transaxle. Then the turbo charger and all lines had to be replaced. It uses a quart of oil every 6,000 miles. BMW says that is normal. After turbo replaced, my gas mileage has gone down by 4 MPG. I’m 66 years of age and I have had many cars in my life time. But in all honestly, I can actually say this is the worse car I have ever owned. And I have owned, everything from Mercedes to VWs to Corvettes to Chevy trucks. The car is made of cheap materials.

  • The Way it is Meant to be Driven - 2003 BMW 5-Series

European delivery on this new car, drove it throughout Bavaria and Austria on a recent trip. Handles the autobahn and small roads with ease and comfort. Handling excellent, showed it responsiveness and braking smoothness in an emergency situation on the Autobahn at high speed avoiding a breakdown in the passing lane. Beautiful driving in the country where it was built.

  • Dont listen to the Naysayers - 2004 BMW 5-Series

This car is definitely the ultimate driving machine. I know there are people who havent driven this car that are keeping the rating down. This car is so smooth, so smart...the I- drive has been simplified compared to the 7-series. Its a breeze to operate. I dont have the nav. system, so I dont know if those complications will develop. The car has enough pickup that I dont have to shift into steptronic unless I need that kick after the light turns green.

  • Best Car Ever Owned - 2018 BMW 5-Series

I was looking for a car with more power (400+), but can be used as daily commuter as well. I am not a track driver yet, but for the daily roads this is one of the best cars I have ever owned. I just traded this with my S550 and I dont regret, so far. This is the first BMW that I felt a great connection as well, both stylistically (even though the styling in conservative, the more you look at the care, the more you get attracted to..its hard to explain) as well as the power and torque and exhaust note are just enough to keep my senses happy, but not waking up my neighbors, as I move stealthy in the early AM hours, to go to work..awesome power, technology and well-planted car without being too weird and showy. Also I wanted the 4wheel-drive traction as well, so this makes it perfect. I would have waited for an M5 if the M5 didnt cost 25000 more...and when I am tired of this, I may end up buying a GTR perhaps, but for now the M559i xdrive feels awesome with the mature V8bi-turbo feels great....very nice.

  • Fun 5 - 2004 BMW 5-Series

Great looking; sassy; fun to drive; good interior space; handles extremely well. I have the sports package which has a nice stiff feel to it; like youre always in control.

  • The new BMW 5 series - 2006 BMW 5-Series

Great new design! parked next to a 2003 5 series yesterday, what a drastic change! The former looked dated and conservitive, mine, a modern refreshing design. Every mile in the car puts a smile on my face and makes each day that much more fun!

  • No Regrets - 2004 BMW 5-Series

This is a terrific automobile. Looks, handling, comfort and its as solid as a rock. A lofty price tag, buts its worth it. I-Drive gives a man that total feeling of control, like that same feeling you get when you take possession of the TV remote. Mr. Long Giang at Vista Motors is great.
