Model Overview:

It's no exaggeration to say that the BMW 5 Series sets the standard for premium sport sedans. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the midsize 5 Series has long offered a near-perfect blend of performance, luxury and interior room. It's also highly regarded for its refined styling and innovative technology features.

Most BMW 5 Series models you'll come across will be rear-wheel-drive sedans, though you'll stumble upon the occasional 5 Series wagon on the used car market. In addition, all-wheel drive has been optional for some time, and many used sedans in colder climes will be so equipped. Traditionally, the 5 Series has featured an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, but BMW has also offered V8 engines, turbocharged four-cylinders and even diesel-powered options. When people ask us to recommend luxury cars, the BMW 5 Series is invariably high on the list, new or used.

Purchased the car with 110,000miles and sold it with 200,000. Owned the car for 3 years and during that time other then $30 per oil change every 10k i had to spend $100 on new water pump. THAT IS IT. This car costed me nothing to own. If you are looking for a nice car that requires little to no maintenance - this is a car to get. Very good engine that has no problems, good performance and good MPG (30mpg on highway at 60mph).

  • Still Happy with it after a month of driving - 2011 BMW 5-Series

I got my 2011 BMW528i about a month ago and wanted to drive it a while before commenting on it. I purchased it as a replacement to my 1998 BMW528i that I had for 13 years! Now for the review: The interior is luxurious! The iDrive is new for me but after a few weeks of getting used to it, I like it. Why no touch screen though? The stereo is nice but could be a little better. The front seats seem cramped to me, maybe narrow the center console a bit? The automatic transmission seems sluggish until you shift into sport mode. The exterior is flawless. I havent noticed any problems with the run flat tires but have been warned by many people to expect it.

Recently moved up from an 06 330i. Really like the ride and quiet of the new 528 but does not handle as well as 3 series. Excellent highway car and still good in the curves but some of the sportiness is gone as a tradeoff for comfort.

  • Dissapointed - 2006 BMW 5-Series

This is my first BMW. I find it a good handling car, but with POOR RELIABILITY. I will sell it at 65,000 miles. The straw that broke the camel back is the need for a new transmission, after a new radiator, etc. I am just 15,000 mi over the warranty limit, and I see nothing but expenses ahead. So GOOD BY BMW for me.

  • Overall Quite Good - 2011 BMW 5-Series

I look for any excuse at all to go and drive it. Once I dreaded having to run late-night errands. Not any more!

  • 550i - Im Smitten! - 2011 BMW 5-Series

5th 5 Series Owned: The exterior styling of the new F10 550i (M Sport), while more modern than classic, is extremely eye catching and contemporary. Its an excellent refinement of the Flame Surfacing started under Chris Bangle in 2004. Versus the 2005-2010 (E60) 5 Series the 2011 (F10) 5 Series is a wholly more cohesive and less polarizing body style that exudes luxury and a bit of aggression while in motion. The interior offers beautiful materials, a perfect driving position and styling that is more inviting than previous generations. The incredible array of useful tech features, adaptable chassis and drivetrain as well as overall performance are simply incredible. A remarkable package!

  • BMW 535 M PACKAGE - 2011 BMW 5-Series

This is by far better 5 then the older model. I dont think there is a car on the market that can match all in one factors such as performance , comfort and style. M package gave it even more style and extra handling features. This bmw cant be compered to any other car in its class.

  • 550ix amazing improvement - 2011 BMW 5-Series

I just picked mine up after waiting for several months. The body style is sleek and much improved over the old style. Inside the car is designed with the driver in mind. Stereo System is top notch, and the car is extremely quiet. What is amazing is the power, its actually subtle, you feel like your driving a nice luxury sedan and the when you press the gas it turns into a monster! This car is powerful. I love it, after a few months I will report back

  • The best sports wagon you can ever own!! - 1999 BMW 5-Series
    By -

Smokin! If you have one you know what a great car it is!! Its easy to work on so I wont get rid of it. 120,000 miles and it is still as strong running as if it had 20,000. The torque is just a great feeling! Its a sleeper on the streets. Its hard not to drive it hard like a sports car!!! I will fix any problem because you cant replace this car with an SUV. I have a Navigator for luxury rides and a Mini MC40 edition for go-cart fun rides but the wagon is a load hauling sports-car!!!

  • Germany builds a muscle car - 1995 BMW 5-Series

Simply put the best car you can buy for a few grand. Build quality/ride/handling/braking rivals new cars. Steering is ok, loads up well, good feedback but poor on center and is not as quick as modern cars. V8 with a 6spd manual (proper) gear box is a dream. These things take a good deal of maintenance and repair, simple as that (find me a 16+ year old car that doesnt!). Parts are reasonable, labor is pricey. Parts availability and technical info is outstanding (old bimmers have a great group of owners!) I like this car a lot but it just isnt the best fit for my needs. I would prefer to sacrifice some of the greatness of an old BMW for a less hassle newer car.
