Overview & Reviews
It's no exaggeration to say that the BMW 5 Series sets the standard for premium sport sedans. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the midsize 5 Series has long offered a near-perfect blend of performance, luxury and interior room. It's also highly regarded for its refined styling and innovative technology features.
Most BMW 5 Series models you'll come across will be rear-wheel-drive sedans, though you'll stumble upon the occasional 5 Series wagon on the used car market. In addition, all-wheel drive has been optional for some time, and many used sedans in colder climes will be so equipped. Traditionally, the 5 Series has featured an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, but BMW has also offered V8 engines, turbocharged four-cylinders and even diesel-powered options. When people ask us to recommend luxury cars, the BMW 5 Series is invariably high on the list, new or used.

Best mid-size sport sedan out now - 2005 BMW 5-Series
By GER_545SMG - December 20 - 5:36 amThis car has delivered...and more. I have never enjoyed a car as much as this. Everything is just great. Sure the cupholders could be better, but this is otherwise German engineering at its finest.

Great car with limited frustrations - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By kress1 - December 19 - 2:00 amDrove E320, A6 before purchase of 530I. Happy I made BMW choice. Car is beautiful to look at, I was not a fan of previous 5 series looks or small interior/trunk. Car hugs the road like no other & has plenty of power/torque. My gripes in electronic failures in steering wheel not rising after ignition is turned off. Also STEERING WHEEL ADJUSTMENT IS A PAIN. Also, side mirror turns down only 50% of the time.

Most Excellent - 1995 BMW 5-Series
By Pink Floyd - December 17 - 2:00 amFirst time Bimmer owner and now I see what James Bond was likin. I got mine used with 114000 miles on it and it is in tremendous condition. Well cared for. Love the mileage and the power. Corners like a dream. Live in Colorado and it is cool in the hills. No outlay for repairs yet...but Im sure they are coming. A hoot to drive.

Worlds best car - 2008 BMW 5-Series
By JPH - December 14 - 11:00 amI had a 2003 525i and thought it was a nearly ideal vehicle. This car, however, is almost perfect. It is roomy for long trips and hauling children as well as for looking really "cool" on the road. Low maintenance costs. The iDrive is very simple to learn, even for those who arent very technological. Other brands cant compare to BMW!

My first, and last - 1997 BMW 5-Series
By TomnMemphs - December 11 - 2:00 amPurchased this car CPO with 53K miles on it. Yeah, its a BMW, but that doesnt impress me much anymore. It drives great, but thats its only decent feature. In the last month, I have spent nearly $1,000 on various maintenance....brakes (just for the front - $500)and the dreaded Inspection II ( a glorified tune-up, and another $500). Ive owned both domestic, japanese, and other European autos and trucks. This car is NOT worth the cost ( both for the car, and the total maintenance costs). If you live in Memphis, youre forced to buy from a single dealer. I suggest you buy something else.

Best car Ive owned - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By Poway driver - December 7 - 2:00 amWonderful car. Great handling which is especially noticable at higher speeds compared to other cars. Braking is excellent. Acceleration is appropriate for engine size. Fuel economy better than expected.

Scared to own an M5 - 1998 BMW 5-Series
By Converted007 - December 7 - 2:00 amThis is one rock-solid car that delivers phenomenal gas mileage. At first we thought the digital readout was incorrect, but have learned to trust it after fill to fill checks. With the cruise set at 140-160 kph (86 to 99 mph) and a good radar detector we have consistently achieved 30+ miles per gallon on the highway and 23 mpg in the city.
