This is your last chance to get a traditionally styled 5 Series -- next year, its styling becomes more closely aligned with the controversial 7 Series. For now, BMW will offer a DVD-based navigation system for the existing 5 Series -- but alas, you must still give up an in-dash CD player if you opt for the nav system. Besides that, rear head protection airbags (optional last year) are now standard across the line. Additionally, all six-cylinder models get a standard moonroof. Standard on the manual-shift 540i (and optional with the automatic) is a new sport package that includes 18-inch wheels, a revised sport suspension, front and rear spoilers, visible exhaust outlets, black side molding, a black headliner, titanium-ringed gauges and an M footrest for the driver. Finally, the 525i gets a new alloy wheel design, and its premium package now includes rain-sensing wipers.

  This is the only 4 door sedan to own. Look no further as I have test driven the competition. Save your $$ and opt for the 2.5 engine as it is as quick as you ever need to drive after 40 miles per hour (not a jack rabbit start, but who needs one). Luxury abounds with interior appointments. Handling is a dream. With the sport package, this is the best looking car on the road in its class.

  I have the "older" design and its been flawless for over 50,000 miles. I hate the looks of the new BMWs so wont be getting another one.

  Ive owned many cars in my 43 years of existance, and the BMW 540I is the most fun to drive, and the handling characteristics are like a train on tracks......sticks to the road.

  Drives like a dream. Substantial yet sporty, amazing pick up, feels like driving on glass. Comfortable with terrific power. A classic in the making, I may buy more cars in my lifetime but Im NEVER selling this one. Classic styling that drives like a race car. If you enjoy driving, this is the car. If you dont enjoy driving, you will after this car.

  I ordered the blue water mettalic with the grey montana leather. It goes quick and the stereo is nice, though I should have ordered the 6 cd changer

  Air Conditioning odors - 2003 BMW 5-Series

  There is a terrible odor which is created by mold growing from condensation on the air conditioner. BMW has not been able to fix it. After futhur research I have found that this is a common problem on the 5 series. If you read the owners manual carefully you will see that BMW is aware of this problem, and has choosen to address the problem by saying that condenstion is normal. What a joke!

  previously owned acura tl and moved up to 530i. excellent handling, standard stereo and excellent materials and workmanship. i just love to drive this car!
