It's no exaggeration to say that the BMW 5 Series sets the standard for premium sport sedans. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the midsize 5 Series has long offered a near-perfect blend of performance, luxury and interior room. It's also highly regarded for its refined styling and innovative technology features.
Most BMW 5 Series models you'll come across will be rear-wheel-drive sedans, though you'll stumble upon the occasional 5 Series wagon on the used car market. In addition, all-wheel drive has been optional for some time, and many used sedans in colder climes will be so equipped. Traditionally, the 5 Series has featured an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, but BMW has also offered V8 engines, turbocharged four-cylinders and even diesel-powered options. When people ask us to recommend luxury cars, the BMW 5 Series is invariably high on the list, new or used.

By S3vSt3R - February 9 - 2:00 amIt is just unbelievable. Handling is just perfect. This car is such a solid performer, that it makes me smile every day when I have to drive it to work. I am against buying used cars, but after test drive I changed my mind on this one.

is it worth it? - 2000 BMW 5-Series
By mykey - February 8 - 2:00 amI had the 328 convertible before "upgrading" to the 528. Loved the 328 so much I just knew that my next car would be a BMW. I had the car for a few months and had some problems with the service dept. and some suspention problems. 1st thing the cool looking brushed 17" aluminum rims had some scratches and pitting.. The dealership decided to fix this problem by painting them silver. What a joke.. They finally did the right thing and replaced the rims. After 6000 miles I am getting a rumbling noise. The tire have worn.. They tell me that this is normal. If I knew this before hand I would have never bought it with the Sport Package.

By kirkd1 - February 1 - 2:00 amMy expectations of this car have been met. Its fun to drive and is the most comfortable seat in the house. My bad back hurts in just about everything except my sport seats. I hate the noise I now have from the tires that started at about 10k miles and its getting worse. Those low profile tires arent all bad though helping turn-in that makes me smile when I need a little rush. Im disappointed in the slipping clutch of the A/T. The upgraded sport steering wheel is mainly plastic and it stares me in the face. The in-cabin entertainment I paid extra for could sound better and have an in-dash changer.

By Peter J - January 28 - 2:00 amThe BMW 5 series has always been excellent and the current model introduced in 1997 is no exception. This is a quiet sophisticated car that has amazing performance. The 6 Speed manual transmission can be a little baulky when cold but once she is warmed, this car is phenomenal. As is the case with most BMWs (I have owned 6) speed is achieved with little fuss and the turbine like drive in the back never gives up, right up to maximum speed you can get away with. The car is, without doubt, one of the finest cars on the road. The interior is a little dated now, but this car is still a winner with build quality to match.

By Todd Akes - January 24 - 10:00 amLove the looks and the technology. The I drive is great in my opinion and the lines of this car are outstanding. My only complaints is the drivers seat seems to be impossible to tune in for comfort and it seems to wonder at freeway speed more than I would expect from a 65k car. Never the less it is a fantastic car time may cure my seat issue and the dealer may cure the wonder.
