Overview & Reviews
It's no exaggeration to say that the BMW 5 Series sets the standard for premium sport sedans. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the midsize 5 Series has long offered a near-perfect blend of performance, luxury and interior room. It's also highly regarded for its refined styling and innovative technology features.
Most BMW 5 Series models you'll come across will be rear-wheel-drive sedans, though you'll stumble upon the occasional 5 Series wagon on the used car market. In addition, all-wheel drive has been optional for some time, and many used sedans in colder climes will be so equipped. Traditionally, the 5 Series has featured an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, but BMW has also offered V8 engines, turbocharged four-cylinders and even diesel-powered options. When people ask us to recommend luxury cars, the BMW 5 Series is invariably high on the list, new or used.

top of the food chain - 1997 BMW 5-Series
By jr roadcaptain - April 18 - 2:00 amI am coming up on 7 years of ownership and 90K on the clock. Yes I just did the radiator but got the cat and a couple of small items under the extended warranty. I have owned and driven various Bimmers and this one is the berries. Do not, I repeat, do not drive this car for any length of time if you cannot buy--it will ruin you for all other cars, even some other Bimmers.

Good Stuff - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By jakedogdog - April 16 - 2:00 amGreat car. This is the third BMW I have had the privelege to own. The first two were both 328is. I loved the way they drove, but they were too small. I ended up in this car as I got a good deal on it, and its even better than the 328s. Its a great size (the back seats in the 3s are just too small) without being too big. I wish it did not feel quite so heavy - but its a price Im willing to pay.

BMWs are built to last - 1994 BMW 5-Series
By Mr BMW - April 15 - 2:00 amI have had this car for over 4 years now. I bought it used in July 1998 and have had no trouble with it whatsover. It rides like a beauty. When I got it it had 44k miles. It now has 122k miles and it still has the same punch and ride as it did 80k miles back. The only drawbacks are the somewhat cramped backseat leg room. The trunk is very spacious. I have my golf clubs and a cricket kit bag in there all the time and I still have room to fit in stuff. The on-board computer is very helpful.

5 series eval - 1990 BMW 5-Series
By steve galgoul - April 8 - 2:00 amthe car has been quite reliable for 13 years, the interior leather should be upgraded, as is showed wear signs quite prematurely,i would consider another if sales incentives,(low finance, free finance)were available...Germanys gutless failure to support the US war effort could affect my decision

POWER... - 2003 BMW 5-Series
By makisig - April 6 - 10:00 amThis is my 2nd BMW (former was a 330ci). Bought a brand new 540i this past weekend, and the increase in power and speed is just well beyond my expectation. The amazing thing is that this 540i cruises at 80 mph with the rpm hovering around 2500. When it accelerates, it does nimbly and with such power and control. I am in my mid 30s, and I think this car is just perfect for that age group. The 540 version asks for a lot of $$$, but I think its worth it if you can afford it. A nice compromise for people who want power but not the price and power in an M version.
