Model Overview:

It's no exaggeration to say that the BMW 5 Series sets the standard for premium sport sedans. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the midsize 5 Series has long offered a near-perfect blend of performance, luxury and interior room. It's also highly regarded for its refined styling and innovative technology features.

Most BMW 5 Series models you'll come across will be rear-wheel-drive sedans, though you'll stumble upon the occasional 5 Series wagon on the used car market. In addition, all-wheel drive has been optional for some time, and many used sedans in colder climes will be so equipped. Traditionally, the 5 Series has featured an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, but BMW has also offered V8 engines, turbocharged four-cylinders and even diesel-powered options. When people ask us to recommend luxury cars, the BMW 5 Series is invariably high on the list, new or used.

  • Really disappointing experience - 2013 BMW 5-Series

This is my fourth BMW. I had good experience with older BMWs. This cars auto start/stop function is abrupt. The entertainment system is highly unreliable. After a few months use, the USB port to Ipod failed to function. Then the email to car system failed to receive messages sent to the car. The bluetooth connectivity is problematic. Phone calls will be received but the sound does not go through the speaker system. When you reported that to the dealership, they claim BMW has problem with keeping up the software updates for iPhones. They cannot fix them. The headlight controller unit failed but the dealership failed to fix it during warranty period. The seat belts buckle hits the hard plastic of the B beam and creates a rattling noise when driving. It seems that BMW has a hard time get their software working properly in their entertainment system.

  • EXHILARATING & WORTH EVERY PENNY - 2004 BMW 5-Series

Youre driving onto the entrance ramp of a major freeway, and you press slightly down on the accelerator: Your vehicle leaves you behind at the ramp! It handles extremely well on curves and corners. The vehicle is very well insulated but not enough to where you dont hear the roar of the engine. An excellent ride-- not too soft and not to tight/bumpy. Overall, the best vehicle in this class!

  • Unparalleled Driving Experience - 2002 BMW 5-Series

2002 525ia w/sport and premium packages, steptronic transmission-this car is flawless. the exterior is as appealing as any car in its class or size, the ride is a notch or two above the Lexus. the seats lumbar support (you GOTTA buy the premium and sport packages) makes you feel like youre in a cockpit. when you "open it up", you dont hear road noise until 90 mph. finally, this car turns heads. i bought (i dont "rent" autos) the rare slate green exterior with the stone green trim, and women, as well as men compliment me daily. p.s. buy a radar detector. you will test the cars limits. **hint** the car wont let you down.

I drove my first 5 series to my senior prom almost 20 years ago - borrowed my aunts and was 2 days late bringing it back! Finally able to get my own and am loving it. Ride is firm but supple - never harsh or unpredicatable. Solid vehicle throughout - wish my Ford SuperCoupe had some of the same characteristics.

  • Loved this car - 1992 BMW 5-Series
    By -

Got this car 2 years old out coming out of college, fella before me put 76K miles on it in the first two years so I got a great deal. In the next 2 years I put another 60K miles on it, never a hiccup. Gave it to my wife when we got married. Now with 2 kids and over 200K miles, the maintenance cycle has picked up beyond what Im willing to commit (which is quite a bit). The engine/tranny is still solid. Its the belts, water pump, alternator, battery, leather seats are starting to rip, you get the point. Hate to call it quits but the time has come.

  • 95 525i sedan - 1995 BMW 5-Series

Car is great - also have 84 533i - New one one is more sophisticated - runs a s smooth as a sewing machine. Bought with 180,000k still extremely tight and handling is very crisp. Looks as good as the new style - maybe better. Needs cup holder.

  • BMW Still Top Performer in Class - 2002 BMW 5-Series
    By -

The BMW 540i is still the best in class. As a luxury vehicle it has every amenity that anyone would want to have. As a sport sedan it has power and is as agile as a cat. The sound system is spectacular but you really dont need one because listening to the engine as you drive is music to a true drivers ears.

  • Great Car! - 1999 BMW 5-Series

I bought my BMW 528 back in 1999 and have enjoyed it a lot over the past 4 years. I had a few repairs so far, the worst was the breakdown of the board computer after 3 1/2 years which set me back about $1,200.

  • we love it! - 2006 BMW 5-Series

The BMW has no comparison on the road when it comes to a driving machine! We have a dog, haul paintings, and soon to have a child ... this car does it all. I agree that its something everyone should drive.
